The Head of Business Risk, CIB (Corporate and Institutional Banking) supports and provides oversight for CIB initiatives, providing specialist risk and control knowledge and insights, prompting and ensuring adequate control oversight within the CIB business, and oversight for all risk activities across the business teams, inclusive of Business Financial Crime Risk (BFCR) will work closely with Senior Management to provide overall administrative and strategic support and sustainability of CIB for the country.
As our Business Risk Manager you will:
- Drive and own strategy to enable high performance across risk metrics across CIB, inclusive of governance and oversight, appropriate risk reporting, issue/incident management
- Collaborate with GCOO (Group Chief Operating Officer) Risk & Control team to ensure all issues/actions tracked appropriately and acting as key escalation for CIB outcomes and activities
- Ensure CIB business is well-versed with a strong understanding of all policies and procedures relevant to the business. Identification and remediation of procedural pain points and challenges (in collaboration with relevant teams and functions, where necessary), and support for automation of manual processes to drive improved ease of control and risk management across teams
- Ensure that adequate controls are in place within CIB to manage the financial crime risk(s) activities, working with regional and global colleagues to promote and enhance local knowledge and provide thought leadership. Providing subject matter expertise for the purpose of setting policy, providing guidance and advising CIB on activities that may involve greater exposure to risks, ensuring HSBC’s compliance to both global and local laws, rules and regulations
- Promote accountable risk and control decision-making based on data and commercial analysis
- Reassess operational risks and likelihood of occurrence/recurrence. This will be achieved by reviewing risks inherent in the business, taking account of economic/market conditions, legal and regulatory requirements, operating procedures and practices, management restructurings and impact of new processes
- Challenge poor, inefficient, outdated or excessive controls, related tasks and behaviors
- Be a representative for CIB at all relevant risk forums
- Support, contribute and influence entity-wide risk and control projects and BAU (Business as usual) activities
- Design, chair and participate in relevant oversight and management meetings demonstrating good governance and control to provide performance insights on a timely basis in order to support business decision making. Ensure appropriate governance and oversight is developed and implemented for the services provided by DBS (Digital Business Services) to CIB
- Act as a strategic partner and contact point to GCOO/GCIO (Group Chief Information Office) sub-functions which are providing services to Wholesale
- Provide performance oversight of third party or intra-group service providers
You’ll likely have the following qualifications to succeed in this role:
- Strong knowledge of CIB COO (Chief Operations Officer), and CIB Client segments – i.e., the customer proposition, the channels and operations, and the key financial performance drivers
- Strong knowledge of operational and business management
- Strong knowledge of HSBC policies, procedures and structures inclusive of AML (Anti Money Laundering) and Credit Risk
- Broad knowledge of financial services industry and global marketplace
- A broad, enterprise-wide view of the business and varying degrees of appreciation for strategy, capabilities, enabling technologies, and governance
- Excellent experience in working, building relationships, and influencing senior stakeholders
- Excellent experience in navigating the organisation to deliver at pace
- Strong experience of workforce strategy and people management
- Strong analytical background and proven ability in analytical rigor, including being able to contextualise data into business activities and conclusions
- Strong interpersonal skills with highly developed capacity to influence senior teams
