Job description
Role purpose
The Risk & Control Review Manager is a key role within the Global IWPB BRR team. The role sits in a team that performs activities as an independent First Line of Defense (1LoD) within the IWPB Global BRR Utility which supports our market and sub-lob Risk & Control Owners.
The role directly supports the AVP IWPB BRR Risk & Control Review and is accountable for:
RCA Review related:
- Performing initial reviews of Data analytic outputs to identify IWPB Risks & Control Assessments (RCA) that require remediation/enhancements due to a failure of the set quality standards.
- Carrying out thorough preparation, driving and participating in execution of a wide range of control design testing activities covering IWPB markets
- Timely delivery of RCA reviews and being transparent and accurate in the completion of testing deliverables.
- Applying judgment in relation to the identification and publication of RCA review findings through identifying the key risks and issues.
- Embedding quality into the RCA review deliverables and ensuring compliance with the IWPB BRR Risk & Control Quality Review Methodology.
- Providing expertise and guidance on RCA reviews across IWPB BRR and applying critical judgment and decision making in relation to the identification and publication of review findings through identifying the key risks and issues
- Preparation of RCA review reports and dashboards to inform key stakeholders and role holders of the outcome of review work.
General/Common:
- Maintaining working relationships with key stakeholders including keeping abreast of key business, regulatory and industry developments and any changes to procedures and practices
- Track and follow-up actions identified and escalating when necessary.
- Understand, follow, and demonstrate compliance with all relevant internal and external rules, regulations and procedures that apply to the conduct of the business in which the jobholder is involved, specifically Internal Controls and any supporting policies and procedures.
Principal Accountabilities and Responsibilities
- Responsible for independently reviewing Data and MI and conducting deep dive activities to access and ensure adherence to the BRR Framework and IWPB what good look like templates.
- Conducts risk-based testing of key/significant controls and processes within IWPB to ensure provision of comfort that the business is operating in line with relevant laws, regulations, principles, and HSBC Group standards and policies and to ensure that IWPB maintains adequate and effective controls.
- Identifies, monitors and follows up with IWPB BRR Role Holders to advise remediation or enhancements are required to Risk & Control Assessments and Monitoring Plans.
- Manage deep-dive and read across activities on reviews of events, issues, opportunities and/or strategic change.
Customers / Stakeholders
- Collaborates directly with the IWPB BRR Role Holders and wider team. providing any necessary execution and ad-hoc support in any of their areas of responsibility.
- The nature of the role requires taking measures to sustain a close working contact with Senior BRR role holders and their deputies across multiple geographies/locations.
- Develop and execute clear and robust communications as required.
- Collaborate with other IWPB Utility Teams as required or determined.
Leadership & Teamwork
- The incumbent must be able to work effectively as a team member contributing to the overall success of the team in meeting its agreed priorities and goals in an environment that supports diversity and reflects the HSBC brand.
- Provide support and guidance for the HSBC-wide “Risk and Control Community”, including sharing ideas, best practices, training other team members.
- Promotes a strong risk culture in their day to day activities and is prepared to raise and escalate concerns identified in their day to day, demonstrates a curious mind and critical thinking and embedding the values in day to day behaviors and decision making.
Operational Effectiveness & Control
- Able to manage their own time to meet both individual and teams priorities on a daily basis. Ensure Operating Procedures are followed, support the update of such procedures and maintain robust documentation and evidence of work undertaken.
- Support and deliver Risk and Control Management activities which span the IWPB Community, to improve and enhance the management of risks and controls in line with the Group Management Risk Framework.
Functional Knowledge
- Conversational English required to engage effectively with stakeholders.
- Experience in business management or governance related field, or equivalent experience. Min Total work experience is 5 years.
- Strong attention to detail and business writing skills. Must have ability to author and edit documents and also be able to challenge and shape submissions.
- Strong understanding of Risk Management Framework and Practical experience of managing risk and control.
- Strong knowledge of the external environment – regulatory, political, competitors etc.
- Strong knowledge of the Business – functionally, operationally and financially.
- Proven experience of positive, challenging interactions with Senior Managers across the business.
- Proven ability to articulate complex issues concisely and in simple language to support problem analysis.
