The role holder will provide counsel, advice and challenge to senior leadership on key business decisions, the development of business strategies and, where required, controls, based on a thorough understanding of the key trends, opportunities and threats impacting the business. In addition, as the Head of RC, you will support the setting and execution of the RC risk appetite within the Group’s appetite and maintain appropriate escalation routes to the HBCH Chief Risk and Compliance Officer (CRCO) and the HCIB RC Team.

Are you interested? Do you have strong collaboration and stakeholder management skills? Do you enjoy being part of a cohesive team?

What you will do:

The Head of RC will be the sole RC Officer at HBCH and will work closely with both the RC Centre of Excellence and the Regional RC Team. HBCH is an important Corporate and Institutional Banking (CIB) market in Europe and has grown strongly in recent years. Further growth is expected, and the Head of RC will be a key partner, providing support and challenge to ensure the safe and sustainable development of the business.

In this role you will:

  • Lead the RC function as a strategic business partner, supporting sustainable growth while maintaining appropriate risk discipline and alignment with Group objectives
  • Set and implement the compliance strategy and risk appetite, working with the CRCO and relevant regional stakeholders within Group and regional guardrails
  • Maintain effective regulatory relationships, ensuring timely and accurate regulatory engagement, disclosures, reporting, escalation and remediation of material issues
  • Oversee the regulatory compliance risk and control framework, ensuring adherence to applicable laws, regulations, internal policies, codes, market practices, and audit or regulatory recommendations
  • Provide clear, timely advice and challenge on regulatory compliance risks relating to clients, transactions, products, business strategies and operational change, while supporting strategic projects and systems
  • Promote a strong compliance and conduct culture, strengthening staff capability and management accountability, and demonstrating “tone from the top”, while championing fair customer outcomes and HSBC’s values

You should apply if you have:

  • Detailed knowledge and understanding of the Swiss regulatory environment, together with an understanding of corporate banking
  • Significant knowledge of regulatory compliance risk frameworks and experience in their execution, together with knowledge of relevant businesses and products
  • Demonstrated awareness of risks and a proactive approach to reviewing, managing, reporting and escalating risks, with the ability to exercise sound judgement when managing sensitive information and high-risk situations
  • Experience dealing with regulatory matters and confidence in interacting with regulators
  • Knowledge of business and cross-functional partnering, including engaging stakeholders and working effectively with the business and other functions to achieve desired outcomes
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills
  • The ability to work effectively under pressure, managing competing and rapidly changing priorities
  • Strong analytical skills, including the ability to identify and summarise key risks and issues from large volumes of Management Information (MI)
  • The ability to support decisions with sound reasoning and clearly articulate the case for risk management and policy, as well as the business and regulatory implications of analysis and findings
  • A highly motivated, dynamic and collaborative approach, with the ability to deliver on time and with strong attention to detail
  • Sound judgement and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think laterally
  • Strong quantitative and qualitative analytical skills
  • A high level of professional and personal integrity
  • Due to immigration restrictions in Switzerland we will only be able to consider applications from Swiss or EU citizens or from candidates holding a valid Swiss work permit

Even if you feel you do not meet 100% of our qualifications, we encourage you to apply, if you believe this role is right for you.

What you’ll get in return:
