We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role of Consultant Specialist.

Business: Hong Kong Technology

Principal responsibilities

Software engineering and delivery

• Analyze requirements and translate them into robust technical designs and implementation plans.
• Develop, enhance and maintain applications using Java, Spring/Spring Boot and RESTful APIs.
• Contribute to solution design, technical estimates, implementation, testing and release activities.
• Produce clean, maintainable and reusable code in line with HSBC engineering standards and best practices.
• Participate in code reviews and provide constructive technical feedback to improve quality and consistency.
• Work with technical leads, analysts and Product Owners to clarify requirements, acceptance criteria and delivery expectations.
• Support the delivery of features across development, system integration testing, user acceptance testing and production release.

Production support and operational readiness

• Participate in application releases, code promotions and post-release stabilization.
• Provide L3 production support, investigate incidents and identify effective short- and long-term solutions.
• Perform root-cause analysis and implement permanent fixes to prevent recurrence.
• Support operational handover by preparing technical documentation, support procedures and release evidence.
• Contribute to service stability, performance, resilience and continuous improvement.
• Agile team contribution
• Participate actively in Agile ceremonies, including stand-ups, sprint planning, refinement, reviews and retrospectives.
• Work collaboratively with engineers, analysts and partner IT teams to remove technical blockers and meet sprint commitments.
• Provide technical guidance and knowledge sharing to less experienced team members.
• Help improve development practices, engineering quality, automation and team throughput.
• Raise delivery risks, dependencies and issues promptly to the technical lead or delivery manager.

Stakeholder and cross-team collaboration

• Work effectively with technical leads, Product Owners, business analysts and partner IT teams.
• Support the clarification of business requirements without owning overall business prioritization or project governance.

Documentation, compliance and audit readiness

• Maintain accurate technical, application and release documentation.
• Provide evidence and technical information for audit, risk, control and regulatory activities.
• Follow HSBC security, architecture, engineering, change and operational procedures.
• Ensure deliverables meet required control, quality and documentation standards.

Requirements

• At least 5 years’ hands-on software engineering experience in Java-based environments.
• Strong experience with Java, Spring/Spring Boot and RESTful API development.
• Strong experience with relational databases, SQL and stored procedures; Oracle or PostgreSQL experience is preferred.
• Experience with software development lifecycle activities, including design, coding, testing, release and production support.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, with the ability to investigate complex technical issues independently.
• Good understanding of secure coding, testing discipline, code review and production readiness.
• Strong communication and documentation skills, with fluent spoken English and professional business writing.
• Ability to work collaboratively in an Agile, multi-team and geographically distributed environment.
