We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role of Associate Director Technology SME Specialist.

Principal responsibilities

Technical leadership & solution design

• Own the technical direction for key services/components, including architecture, data flows, API design, scalability, resiliency, and performance.
• Drive engineering best practices: coding standards, testing strategy, documentation, design reviews, and maintainability.

Delivery & quality

• Lead the team to deliver roadmap commitments on time with strong quality controls and clear risk management (dependencies, technical debt, resourcing).
• Establish and improve CI/CD, automated testing, quality gates, and engineering metrics (e.g., DORA, defect rate, SLOs).

Cross-functional collaboration

• Partner closely with Product, Finance SMEs, Data, Platform, Security, Risk/Compliance, and Operations to ensure requirements are clear and solutions are compliant and operable.
• Communicate technical trade-offs clearly (cost, risk, time, user impact) and influence stakeholders to align on decisions.

Production excellence

• Improve observability (logging/metrics/tracing), capacity planning, incident response, and post-incident reviews (RCA) with measurable actions.
• Participate in on-call/production support (if applicable) and ensure operational readiness for releases.

Coaching & team development

• Mentor engineers through code/design reviews, pairing, knowledge sharing, and capability development.
• Foster an inclusive, collaborative engineering culture where different perspectives are welcomed and outcomes are delivered together.

Requirements

Minimum qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems (or equivalent practical experience).
• 5–8+ years in technology roles (software engineering, platform engineering, integration, or technical lead) with hands-on delivery experience.
• Demonstrable experience working in regulated financial services (or similarly regulated environment) with strong attention to risk and controls.
• Experience supporting production systems (on-call/incident support, problem management, RCA).

Minimum skills required

• Domain & business understanding
  • Working knowledge of Wealth financial planning concepts: goals-based planning, risk profiling, suitability-adjacent processes, proposals/reports, assumptions (inflation/returns), portfolio projections.
  • Ability to translate adviser/client needs into technical requirements and solution options.
• Technical depth (at least one strong specialism + breadth)
  • Strong engineering fundamentals: system design, debugging, performance, secure coding.
  • Experience designing and integrating systems using APIs (REST/JSON; versioning; idempotency; error handling).
  • Integration experience across enterprise environments (e.g., event messaging, file-based interfaces, batch vs real-time patterns).
  • Solid understanding of data flows and data quality controls (lineage, reconciliation, validation, reference data).
• Architecture & non-functional requirements
  • Ability to define/assure NFRs: resilience, scalability, latency, throughput, DR, capacity planning.
  • Strong observability mindset: logging, metrics, tracing, alerting, runbooks, SLI/SLO thinking.
  • Experience with technology standards and design governance (producing/reviewing solution designs, documenting decisions).
• Security, risk, and compliance-by-design
  • Practical security knowledge: IAM concepts, least privilege, secrets management, encryption in transit/at rest, secure API authentication/authorisation.
  • Familiarity with control expectations: audit trails, segregation of duties, change management evidence, vulnerability management.
• Stakeholder management & ways of working
• • Ability to influence across teams: clear communication, structured decisioning, conflict-free negotiation.
  • Comfortable working with Product Owners, Architects, Cybersecurity, Operations/SRE, Data, and vendors.
  • Coaching mindset: can uplift team capability and reduce single points of failure
