The Opportunity:
The Specialist Engineering job contributes to the provision of engineering expertise in specialist technology engineering areas which may include but is not limited to data engineering, security engineering, front-end engineering, user experience engineering. Includes Infrastructure domain specialists such as Storage, Network, Mainframe, etc.
The role will provide support for platforms specific to a business area that requires specialist technology engineering expertise; and /or a product or service within a technology engineering specialism;
Design and engineer software with the customer or user experience as a key objective for internal and external users focussing on the interface and front-end usability of the application
What you’ll do:
This role will carry out some or all of the following activities:
• Software testing using various methods and tools
• Establish a digital environment and automate processes to minimize variation and ensure predictable high quality code and data
• Create technical test plans and records, including unit and integration tests, within automated test environments to ensure code quality
• Quality assurance automation ensuring that the test strategy also takes into account the test data, environments and non-functional testing relevant for Products/Services
• Compliance with all relevant controls and standards
• Work with Ops and Dev Engineers to ensure operational issues (performance, operator intervention, alerting, design defect related issues, etc.) and any design related issues are identified during testing, and addressed in a timely manner prior to implementation
• Provide support in identification and resolution of all incidents associated with the IT service, as directed by leadership of the DevOps team
• Ensure service resilience, service sustainability and recovery time objectives are met for all the software solutions delivered
• Responsible for automating the testing within the DevOps pipeline driving a culture of continuous improvement
• Keep up-to-date and have expertise on current tools, technologies and areas like cyber security and regulations pertaining to aspects like data privacy, consent, data residency etc. that are applicable
What you will need to succeed in the role:
The role will carry out some or all of the following activities:
• Contribute to the simplification of small parts of a tech architecture.
• Develop a clear understanding of owned component dependencies.
• Develop a track record of managing tech debt and taking the initiative to fix issues before being assigned them.
• Continuously contribute to code and review other's code for best practice, ensuring compliance with all relevant controls and standards including relevant Service Management Standard.
• Seek empirical evidence through proof of concepts, tests and external research.
• Demonstrate empathy for what is required to own a system from an ITSO perspective.
• Contribute to the establishment of a digital environment and automate processes to minimize variation and ensure predictable high quality code and data
• Provide subject matter expertise and support across teams.
• Develop tools for wider use across the team and encourage a culture of learning and continuous improvement.
• Provide leadership for team, component and production incidents reviews (PIR) and demonstrate desire to take ownership.
• Take ownership of Infrastructure and lead in Role swap or DR Drives through change from lessons learnt in PIRs
• Build relationships beyond teams and seek out new ways of improvement.
