The Opportunity
HSBC is seeking a Finance Information Technology (IT) Support Service Specialist to support global users through a follow-the-sun operating model. The role sits within a single global support team with locations in Canada, Poland, Guangzhou, the United Kingdom (UK), the United States (US) and India. You will monitor critical finance applications, manage incidents and service requests, and restore service promptly in a highly controlled environment. You will coordinate across global technology teams to meet service level agreements (SLAs), maintain clear stakeholder communications, and reduce repeat incidents through effective problem and knowledge management. Success is measured through stable service performance, high-quality incident records, timely communications and measurable improvement in recurring issues and operational processes.
What you'll be doing
- Monitor finance applications using agreed tools and respond to technical alerts within required timeframes
- Oversee service level agreement (SLA)-based file deliveries and take prescribed actions when delays or issues occur
- Manage incidents and service requests escalated to on-call support teams and ensure procedures, tracking and root cause details are completed before closure
- Participate in major incident reviews and service improvement programs and translate outcomes into operational improvements
- Identify incident root cause, assess whether problem management is required and update incident and problem tickets accordingly
- Categorize and prioritize incidents and requests using standard processes with rapid escalation for critical business impact
- Communicate status through incident notification system (INS) updates and flash reports and keep stakeholders informed through recovery and verification
- Maintain the knowledge base, produce management information (MI) reporting as required and coordinate disaster recovery (DR) tests and service metrics monitoring
What we're looking for
- Bring substantial hands-on experience supporting Structured Query Language (SQL) Server and Oracle in production environments
- Work effectively in shift-based operations and on-call support models
- Communicate fluently in English, written and spoken, with experience partnering directly with business teams
- Apply established incident and problem management capability, including root cause investigation and disciplined ticket updates
- Use Procedural Language/Structured Query Language (PL/SQL) and Oracle development techniques, preferably within a financial domain
- Operate confidently on UNIX, including script generation to support recovery and operational tasks
- Use version control tools and work routinely with Jira, Confluence and Jenkins
- Apply experience in banking reporting environments and handling large datasets
