Corporate is a strategic sector within CIB and as such brings with it a high level of visibility. Given the global nature of the portfolio, and the bank’s strategic growth ambition in this sector, the role offers excellent exposure to teams and stakeholders across the bank globally.

Role Purpose

Responsible for proactively managing a portfolio to meet financial targets for Corporate clients, covering Japan HQ large corporates (Outbound) and Multi-National Corporate (MNC) Japan subsidiaries (Inbound), in close coordination with overseas sales colleagues and CIB Relationship Managers. The role is to position the business based on industry and market developments, coordinating with Product Management to contribute a market-leading proposition for corporate clients.

The jobholder will act as a cash management specialist, providing advisory-led solutions and proposals across cash management products (including payables/receivables, liquidity, cards, and banking connectivity), while ensuring alignment with Compliance requirements, sector strategies, and broader HSBC strategies. The role is an individual contributor and does not own credit.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Work closely with key stakeholders to develop and execute strategy for the responsible customer segmentation (Japan HQ large corporates outbound; MNC Japan subsidiaries inbound).
  • Partner with CIB Relationship Managers and the wider GPS sales teams to identify and develop business opportunities; jointly formulate client engagement strategies to deepen HSBC cash management wallet share.
  • Grow the global wallet of Japan large corporates and increase revenue from MNC Japan subsidiaries through a needs-based advisory approach, understanding customer requirements and providing appropriate GPS solutions to maximise commercial profitability and relationship depth.
  • Build and maintain close relationships with senior executives within client organisations, acting as a trusted cash management advisor.
  • Proactively act on direct customer feedback, market surveys and client engagement programmes; manage pricing discussions and negotiations and conduct periodic pricing reviews.
  • Lead end-to-end processes for delivering successful responses to client RFPs, coordinating with stakeholders in various countries and product groups.
  • Be recognised as a cash management specialist with competent knowledge of relevant products and services, including (but not limited to) payables, receivables, liquidity, corporate cards, and connectivity solutions.
  • Act as a lead sales representative on opportunities with key clients and/or deals, ensuring disciplined pipeline management and execution.
  • Work closely with GPS Product, Implementation/Integration, and Client Service teams to ensure smooth transition of client mandates into realised revenues, and provide ongoing coverage as client needs evolve.
  • Maintain comprehensive sales records in a timely manner to allow tracking of sales performance and sales quality.
  • Proactively manage the portfolio to ensure alignment with the Bank’s Risk and Control policies across Financial Crime Risk and Operational Risk (noting credit ownership sits with Relationship Management/credit teams).
  • Advise Relationship Manager teams on market trends, competitor landscape, and regulatory changes to anticipate and respond to emerging customer needs and opportunities.

Experience, Skills and Qualifications (Key requirements for the role)

  • Extensive experience of global cash management techniques, market/competitive environment, trends and regulatory environment.
  • Strong banking knowledge across cash management product families including payables, receivables, liquidity, corporate cards and banking connectivity; experience managing regional and cross-border mandates.
  • Proven experience building and managing large, complex corporate relationships in a client-facing role, demonstrating understanding of risk management, structures, products, and processes in an individual contributor capacity.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively at senior executive level.
  • Self-motivated with a growth mindset; able to cope with pressure in a fast-growing and fast-moving environment.
  • Fluency in both written and verbal English and Japanese (business level).
