What you can expect
Whether your degree relates to finance, science or the arts there is a place for you on our Corporate and Institutional Banking (“CIB”) Graduate Programme. Your skills and fresh ideas will help you establish an exciting career in a Corporate Banking role.
Our CIB business is one of the largest banking businesses of its kind. We offer 24-hour coverage of local markets and provide a full range of banking services to our clients. You can expect to work on exciting projects in a fast-paced, collaborative environment and interact with clients and colleagues around the world to create and offer innovative solutions to our clients.
CIB manages HSBC’s largest clients and delivers comprehensive solutions to complex strategic and capital market challenges. You will trade ideas and strategies, and interact with a broad range of clients, from multinational corporates to private equity firms. It’s a career choice that requires dedication, but one that will give you many rewards in return.
What you will do
Corporate Banking: You will gain first-hand experience of how our relationship managers, working closely with our product specialists, create innovative solutions to meet the banking needs of our largest corporate and institutional clients. You will have a chance to understand how we build trusted relationships with our clients, gain a great overview of the breadth of products HSBC can offer and see how we respond to our clients’ need by deploying these products into tailored solutions across multiple countries. You will also see how we help the Bank manage the risk inherent from dealing with these clients, to ensure we foster a sustainable business model.
A dynamic, challenging and diverse environment with on-the-job learning and structured development lies ahead of you. There will be many opportunities to develop your network of contacts within CIB and beyond. You’ll also be able to take part in our sustainability initiatives. Our volunteering programme, Diversity & Inclusion activities, for example, could help you to develop new skills, while contributing to the communities in which we work.
As well as your immediate team, we have Employee Resource Groups (“ERGs”), also known as networks. They are similar to the clubs and societies that you may have had access to at school, college or university. ERGs are voluntary employee-led groups. Our employees lead eight global networks to promote diversity within the bank [http://www.hsbc.com/our-approach/diversity-and-inclusion/employee-networks]: Ability, Balance, Embrace, Faith & Belief, Generations, Nurture, Pride and Strive. We also have common interest groups that connect employees on a variety of different topics. They are open to all employees.
We offer a market-competitive pay and benefits package according to your role and location.
Learning and development
We offer a high-quality learning and development programme. You will begin your rotation program in Tokyo for up to 18 months which consists of a combination of on-the-job training as well as a series of e-learning courses. The on-the-job training is comprised of rotating through teams within the CIB business, which may include relationship coverage, products, risk management, and client services. JSDA qualification will be required by the end of the programme.
We’ll provide the support, tools and opportunities for you to drive your own career development. Your training will be carefully structured, with events and other opportunities to build your wider HSBC and banking knowledge. You’ll have regular access to business leaders for coaching and advice, while constructive feedback will enable you to measure your performance.
