Role Purpose
The Assistant Vice President (AVP) supports the day-to-day trade operations in Japan covering Clearing & Settlement activities across both Custody Settlement and Broker Deader Clearing.
The role sits within Securities Services (SSV) Operations Japan in Markets & Securities Services (MSS) Operations Japan and supports multiple operational streams including Custody Settlement (Equities / Japanese Government Bonds) and Broker Dealer clearing activities.
Depending on business needs and individual development, team members may develop expertise across these areas over time.
This role operates within a high-volume post-trade operational environment supporting significant transaction flows within the Japanese financial market and requires a hands-on operational mindset.

Key Responsibilities
- Perform daily clearing and settlement operations across Japanese post-trade infrastructures including JADEC, BOJ, JDCC and JSCC.
- Support settlement processes across multiple asset classes with particular focus on equity settlement and broker dealer clearing activities.
- Monitor settlement lifecycle events and resolve settlement exceptions in a timely and controlled manner.
- Investigate and resolve settlement breaks, falls and operational incidents.
- Coordinate closely with internal teams, offshore operations teams, market infrastructures, counterparties and clients.
- Maintaining strong operational control standards in line with internal policies and regulatory expectations.
- Support operational improvements and contribute to initiatives aimed at enhancing efficiency and reducing operational risk.
- Participate in incident management and contribute to post-incident reviews and process improvements.
- Provide operational insights and participate in client due diligence meetings or operational discussions as a subject matter expert (SME) when required.

Role Context
The Clearing & Settlement team sits within SSV Operations Japan in MSS Operations Japan and supports both custody clients and broker dealer clients through third-party clearing services.
The team works closely with global stakeholders, offshore operations teams and local market infrastructures, requiring effective communication and coordination across locations.
Team members contribute to the stability of Japan’s post-trade ecosystem while developing deep operational expertise across settlement processes and market infrastructure.
Qualifications
- Experience in post-trade operations, settlement operations or securities operations.
- Understanding of Japanese market infrastructure such as JASDEC, BOJ, JDCC or JSCC is required.
- Experience in custody settlement (equities) or broker dealer clearing operations would be advantageous.
- Ability to work effectively in a high-volume operational environment.
- Strong attention to details and operational risk awareness.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams, offshore teams, and market participants.
- Business-level English communication skills required to interact with offshore teams and global stakeholders.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to interact with clients when required.
- Interest in developing long-term expertise in Japan’s post-trade environment.

Within Japan, the Clearing & Settlement team supports both Custody Settlement and Broker Dealer Third Party Clearing (TPC) activities across Japan’s sophisticated post-trade infrastructure including JASDEC, BOJ, JDCC, and JSCC.
