Role Purpose (2-3 sentences)

VP, Credit Analysis Unit works closely with RMs to support their credit-related, pre-sanction credit tasks (aligned with CAU’s functional taxonomy). The role holder prepares credit proposals (including credit renewals, new money requests, new client onboards request, credit amendment request, credit memo), and help on other credit related matters and projects. Credit analysts ensure proposals’ quality, adhere to agreed CAU SLAs, and maintain collaborative working relationship with the Business, WMR and other connected parties. The role holder also provides RMs with credit risk support for application of credit policies and processes.  VP, CAU maintains a flexible working model ensuring new business transactions are prioritized to exploit revenue generating activities.

  • Job Content 
    • Deliver the highest quality credit analysis and credit-associated tasks for team portfolios in a timely manner, under direct or indirect oversight from line manager and respective RM.
    • Develop sound banking & industry knowledge and apply high standard credit principles to ensure robust market/industry risk analysis for each proposal.
    • Share case experiences, best practice, credit knowledge and skills with the team as well as building up right culture and awareness on risk monitoring and control in our frontline.
    • Maintain a flexible working model ensuring new business transactions are prioritized to exploit revenue generating activities.
    • Handle more complex risk matters (e.g. analyses, processes, products, markets etc.) and mentor junior analysts resulting in more favorable analyses and quicker turn around times for credit applications.
    • Work proactively and maintain collaborative relationship within CAU and with relevant stakeholders including Banking business teams and WMR, in order to further enhance both credit quality and work efficiency, particularly for complex facilities, challenging credits and urgent deals.
    • Support and be the coordinator for credit related projects and ad-hoc assignments to assist RM teams to make decisions and add value for Banking’s business initiative.
    • Comply with HSBC internal control standards, stay alert and implement all Group Policies and external regulations.
    • Post-lending monitoring: Help RM to conduct sufficient credit analysis and be alert to deteriorations of external conditions to safeguard the loan portfolio.
    • Support the team/RMs in identifying and meeting customers’ needs in order to grow relationship-led revenues across the HSBC Group.
  • Skills Requirements
    • Educated to the university or above level.
    • Minimum 5-10 years of banking experience required, with a minimum of 3 years within a credit risk discipline strongly preferred.
    • Excellent communication, analytic and problem-solving skills.
    • Strong organizational, time management and prioritization skills to meet deadlines.
    • Mature and professional manner in shaping credit decisions.
    • Excellent team player with good communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Be change oriented and able to cope with pressure and tight deadlines.
    • Good knowledge of banking products and regulatory policies preffered.
    • Able to understand and consolidate diverse and complex business information and identify / mitigate risk issues.
    • Ability to prioritize competing demands.
    • Corporate lending experience preffered with good credit and financial analytical skills.
    • Fluent written and spoken English.
    • Proficient in the use of MS Office tools, e.g. Excel.
    • Strong understanding of HSBC Group credit policies and systems (for internal candidates).
