Functional Description

Global Sustainability sets global strategy on sustainability and supports on managing the challenges of climate change, managing the social and environmental risks of projects that we finance and identifying business opportunities that have an environmental or social dimension. Global Sustainability oversees HSBC’s global philanthropic programmes - which focus on education and the environment.

  • Role Purpose:
    • Lead and drive the implementation of HSBC Net Zero Transition Strategy in Taiwan by working closely with Businesses and Functions, as well as with Group and Regional Sustainability teams and manage local donation budget in line with Group and Regional philanthropic strategy.

 

  • Job Content:
    • Serve as the go-to subject matter expert on net-zero transition for Businesses and Functions in HSBC Taiwan, in the context of the financial sector and taking into account market policies and regulations.
    • Work closely with the Regional Sustainability senior team, including the Head of Sustainability and Head of Climate Change for Asia Pacific, to plan, manage and execute the Group’s Net Zero Transition Plan in Taiwan.
    • Support the CEO and Head of Banking in internal sustainability governance forum and manage Board engagement related to sustainability-related strategy implementation.
    • Support the Businesses’ agenda to grow sustainable finance and investments by supporting client engagement on net zero transition, proposition development, GSSS transactions structuring and governance, and capability building initiatives.
    • Represent the bank and support CEO/CFO/other Opco members on key sustainability and climate-related external engagements and communications, for instance with governmental agencies, regulators, industry bodies, academia and local community.
    • Activate staff engagement on HSBC Net Zero Transition Strategy

 

  • Skills Requirements:
    • Strong proven records in the areas of sustainability and/or sustainable finance, including solid experience leading sustainability initiatives in bank/ financial institutions.
    • University degree or equivalent and relevant academic qualifications in sustainability. 
    • Understanding of the latest market and regulatory developments of sustainability, especially related to net zero, in the context of banking and financial institution in Taiwan.
    • Possess knowledge in one or more topics essential to realizing HSBC’s climate ambition. This includes but is not limited to:

                    - Sustainable finance and climate-aligned finance

                    - Renewable energy

                    - Fossil fuels and carbon-intensive sector decarbonisation

                    - Nature, such as biodiversity, deforestation, nature-based solutions

                    - Carbon markets.

    • Ability to network and foster key internal and external relationships to drive HSBC’s climate ambition, including delivery of climate strategy and capability building.
    • Business acumen demonstrated through experience in driving sustainability in a commercial organization. Financial services experience is desired but not compulsory.
    • Strong communication skills to work across cultures, seniority and lines of business and function to help demonstrate HSBC’s sustainability credentials.
    • Good command of Mandarin and English (business level) is a must
