We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role of VP Workspace Health and Safety.
Role Purpose
This is a dual role for Health & Safety (H&S) and Operational Management (OM).
The H&S function is responsible for the management of Health and Safety in partnership with vendor providers to protect HSBC employees, customers, visitors and the general public. The role supports the Country Head of Real Estate Services on H&S matters including:
- Planning, delivery and operation of all H&S activities, ensuring compliance with Group Standard H&S policies and H&S legislation / code of practice within the country.
- Work with external providers to deliver H&S
The OM function provides support to the Country Head of Real Estate Services across all of their areas of responsibility. OM delivers and contributes to the implementation and management of policies, processes, procedures, and tools in Real Estate Services. The role is responsible for OM activities listed below:
- Provide support on Real Estate Services governance, risk control and implementation of Global Standards
- Contribution to developing communication materials
- Support financial planning, management and reporting
Principal Accountabilities
Health & Safety
- The role holder will adhere to and enforce adherence based on Global HSBC and Local Health & Safety controls and Law based regulations. This will be achieved by adherence to all relevant procedures, keeping appropriate records and, where appropriate, by the timely implementation of internal and external audit points, including issues raised by external regulators with respect to Occupational Health & Safety practice.
- Support Real Estate Services Head to implement HSBC’s H&S policy and country legislative requirements, and any non-compliance remedied. Apply for dispensations/risk acceptance on HSBC’s requirements as needed.
- Together with the Country Real Estate Services team and suppliers, assess and document H&S risks and develop & manage an action plan.
- In conjunction with vendor suppliers:
Conduct emergency (e.g. Fire, earthquake, floods, etc.) drills
Implement an H&S review and inspection program.
Document and report accidents and incidents. Assist the H&S Manager in Region with the investigation of major incidents or serious accidents.
Ensure new buildings / new refurbishment work meets Group Workplace Standards and H&S assessments are performed.
- Review the Technical Due Diligence (TDD) for new acquisition.
- Provide oversight on H&S related activities in Facilities Management and Capital Projects
Operational Management
- Real Estate Services Risk and Control Operations – Familiar with Real Estate Services policies including the Functional Instruction Manual (FIM). Work with Country Head of Real Estate Services and other work streams to implement HSBC Global Standards, policies and Real Estate Services processes and procedures.
- These include, but not limited to, FCC, BCP, Information Risk, Records Management and Supplier Management.
- Support Real Estate Services Head to implement governance, robust documentation and management controls.
- Prepare for audits, reviews and regulator visits. Support Head of Real Estate Services to remediate findings and actions in a timely manner.
- Management Information – produce accurate and timely budget planning, and reporting
- Develop communication including Real Estate Services newsletters and reports. Organize Real Estate Services team engagement.
- Support Real Estate Services Head on ad hoc requirements e.g. regulatory reporting, presentations, recovery and resolution plans, data review exercises.
- The role holder will adhere to and enforce adherence to internal controls.
- This will be achieved by adherence to all relevant procedures, keeping appropriate records and, where appropriate, by the timely implementation of internal and external audit points, including issues raised by external regulators.
- The role holder will support the implementation of the Group compliance policy.
- The term ‘compliance’ embraces all relevant financial services laws, rules and codes with which the business has to comply.
- This will be achieved by adhering to all relevant processes/procedures and by liaising with Compliance department about new business initiatives at the earliest opportunity.
- Also and when applicable, by ensuring adequate resources are in place and training is provided, fostering a compliance culture and optimising relations with regulators.

Leadership & Teamwork
- Support country risk assessment and country action plan covering H&S policy requirements; local legal requirements; identified risks and issues (H&S MSII, audit points). Be aware of industry best practices and H&S code of practice, share with Real Estate Services team and supplier(s).
- Act as linchpin with Work streams coordinating initiatives and activities e.g. in FRP, planning and audit reviews
- Demonstrate core behaviours and values including teamwork, focus, drive and determination
- Encourages greater team communication and collaboration
Functional Knowledge
- Acted as a Safety Officer, Safety Officer 2 as a minimum requirement, SO4 is preferred, and or Relevant health & safety qualification or degree level preferred. Knowledge of H&S legislation in country and experience in ensuring compliance to a recognized safety standard and managing health & safety in a similar size of organization.
- Experience in Facilities Management or acted as min. SO2 is preferred with highly experienced in relation to budgetary real estate management for a min. 10yrs.
- Good understanding of internal control and operational risk in a real estate context. Experience in implementing risk policies, processes and controls.
Qualifications
