We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role of Vice President, Performance & Business Management.
Role Purpose
Group Chief Operating Office (GCOO) plays a pivotal role within HSBC, providing essential operational and technical support to our global businesses to improve customer service and drive efficiency. GCOO brings together global expertise and technology to help keep HSBC ahead of the competition.
The Chief Operating Officer (COO) has overall responsibility for leading GCOO, providing critical support to the bank across operations, technology, and key central business services.
The Performance team supports the COO by acting on their behalf with internal and external stakeholders and providing business management support, including communications, strategy execution, financial management, governance, and people engagement, as well as delivering a range of employee services and benefits. The team also drives continuous improvement across the COO organisation, including change execution, regulatory reporting and risk management, simplification, and automation.
Principal Accountabilities
- Change Execution & Continuous Improvement: Lead end-to-end change delivery, managing stakeholders, dependencies and communications to ensure timely outcomes, whilst embedding continuous improvement through simplification, standardisation, and automation across the COO Office.
- Programme/Project Execution & Cross-Functional Oversight: Act as the lead project manager to deliver strategic programmes and/or provide cross-functional governance, proactively managing risks, dependencies, and stakeholder expectations to protect delivery outcomes.
- Communications & Stakeholder Alignment: Execute communication plans across Functions and Regional/Country stakeholders, producing clear executive-ready materials that reinforce the Function’s purpose, strategy, deliverables and value.
- Service Performance Management: Define and manage service performance metrics (benchmarks, KPIs, dashboards), monitor outcomes, and drive actions to improve efficiency, effectiveness and stakeholder experience.
- Financial Management & Planning Support: Support or coordinate planning, forecasting, tracking, and reporting with Global/Regional/Country Finance to enable cost discipline, resource transparency, and controlled decision-making.
- Non-Financial Risk (NFR) Oversight: Act as the primary COO Office contact for key NFR deliverables (e.g., regulatory reporting, manual process governance, and Enterprise-Wide Risk Assessment or EWRA), providing end-to-end oversight, tracking, and timely escalation.
- Governance & Management Controls: Establish and embed consistent governance routines, robust documentation standards and effective management controls to support decision-making, auditability and disciplined execution.
- People Strategy & Engagement: Lead planning and delivery of people engagement and internal communication initiatives, working with HR and/or relevant business leaders to strengthen culture, connectivity and colleague experience.
- Organisational Design & Operating Model Support: Maintain and review organisational designs and role clarity, supporting operating model improvements aligned to evolving business needs.
- Strategic Business Management Support: Provide strategic management support to the Country COO and Head of Performance Services, ensuring priorities are translated into structured plans, actions, and measurable outcomes.
Qualifications
- Proven experience delivering end-to-end change and continuous improvement initiatives, including simplification and/or automation.
- Strong programme/project management capability, with experience leading cross-functional delivery, managing dependencies, and maintaining delivery governance.
- Experience in service performance management, including defining KPIs/benchmarks, building dashboards, tracking outcomes, and driving performance actions.
- Working knowledge of financial planning and reporting (budgeting, forecasting, tracking) in partnership with Finance, with an emphasis on cost discipline and transparency.
- Strong experience in supporting/leading Non-Financial Risk (NFR) deliverables (e.g., regulatory reporting, manual process governance, EWRA), including robust tracking and timely escalation.
- Experience establishing and operating governance routines, documentation standards, and management controls, ensuring audit readiness.
- Experience coordinating people engagement and internal communications initiatives in partnership with HR and relevant business leaders.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, able to communicate effectively and confidently across the Group.
- Strong stakeholder management, analytical and problem-solving skills
- Proficient in Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and SharePoint/Teams
