We bring together the people, ideas and capital that nurture progress and growth, helping to create a better world – for our customers, our people, our investors, our communities and the planet we all share.

Joining our Leveraged, Acquisition and Syndicated Finance team in Sydney as a Vice President, you will report to the Head of Leveraged, Acquisition and Syndicated Finance Australia, with the focus of supporting the origination and execution of both event and non-event driven financings in Australia and New Zealand. You will drive and support the business in satisfying growth, revenue and cost targets, with the goal of enhancing client relationships (greater share of wallet) and building effective peer and investor relationships.

Taking on this diverse role will provide an excellent opportunity to utilise your strong credit, loan product, relationship management and distribution skills as part of a high performing team, within a results driven and challenging global environment.  Joining HSBC you will be rewarded with access to excellent training and development and diverse career opportunities across our global network over time.

Your key responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:

  • Leading and assisting with pitch preparation, negotiation of transaction terms, execution and distribution of both event and non-event syndicated loan financing opportunities
  • Proactive application of a range of products including traditional syndicated bank financing, Unitranche and Term Loan B structures in support of complex transactions including acquisition financings, leveraged buy-outs and recapitalisations.
  • Preparing submissions and presenting to internal stakeholders on capital returns, credit and underwriting risk, with ongoing responsibility for management of those exposures including related documentation.
  • Building an effective network of external stakeholders maintaining close frequent contact with key target clients, sponsors and investors.
  • Developing and maintaining an appropriate level of understanding of each relevant client’s business, industry and associated markets.
  • Establishing and maintaining strong relationships across the Corporate and Institutional Bank and relevant product areas including Debt Capital Markets, Global Markets and Infrastructure Finance to identify and action cross selling opportunities.

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Previous experience within Loan Syndication and/or Leveraged and Acquisition Finance roles as a Vice President or Senior Associate.
  • Proven experience undertaking origination and marketing activities, preparing credit and underwrite submissions, and execution of complex, event-based debt financings.
  • Confident analytical and financial modelling skills with a strong commercial orientation, focusing on credit, industry and market risk.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to build strong client and internal stakeholder relationships.
  • Proven ability to consistently meet and exceed client expectations through superior service.
  • Demonstrated capability in identifying cross sell and business growth opportunities.
  • Solid understanding of risk management and mitigation.
  • Degree qualified in a finance related discipline.

Preference will be given to candidates who hold Australian PR/Citizenship or New Zealand Citizenship, or who can demonstrate current unrestricted work rights in Australia without limitations.

As an HSBC employee in Australia, you’ll have access to tailored professional development opportunities, competitive pay, an embedded flexible working culture and a range of employee benefits. These include market-leading subsidised private health cover, enhanced parental pay and support when returning to work, subsidised financial products and services, bonus leave days and wellness programmes including discounted gym memberships.
