Risk and Compliance are global functions that incorporate a range of specialist teams, working together to help HSBC navigate a complex regulatory and risk landscape. The Risk and Compliance function aims to embed a sustainable approach to risk and compliance management that supports safe growth and serves customers fairly. The function aspires to continuously raise the bar and set leading standards across the industry to help HSBC safeguard its customers and the communities in which it operates.
The of Head of Business Management Australia and New Zealand leads the business management function for Risk and Compliance, reporting to the Chief Risk and Compliance Officer (CRCO). This role overseas a geographically diverse team comprising of three direct reports and indirect leadership of an administration team.
This is a 14 Month Fixed Term Contract (Maternity Leave Cover) based in Barangaroo, with an expectation for the chosen candidate to start by end of April 2026.
Your main responsibilities will include:
- End to end oversight of the cost management of the Risk and Compliance functions.
- Management and oversight of all recruitment and resourcing activities for Risk and Compliance, as well as facilitate the people transformation initiatives
- Management all Third-Party engagement and outsourcing activities, including attestation exercises and monthly / annual reviews.
- Management of the Business Continuity Plans (BCP) and resilience activities for the Risk and Compliance functions.
- Oversight and Support to the Control Owners within the Compliance team with control management and continuous monitoring activities.
- Lead the delivery of the People Agenda for the Risk and Compliance functions, including driving and promoting cultural initiatives, coordinating staff training and career development plans and organising Exchanges and Leadership sessions.
- Collaborating with Exco and Senior stakeholders across the Lines of Business (LOBs) and Functions to drive timely and effective service delivery.
- Attendance in entity wide governance forums for Risk and Compliance from a second LOD perspective including attending forums as delegate for CRCO.
- Facilitate and present at management committees.
- Facilitate and present at internal Risk and Compliance governance forums.
- Support on Financial Accountability Regime (FAR) activities for CRCO as needed.
- Coordination of vendor management activities, corporate real estate and procurement support.
- Provide management support of various/ad-hoc strategic projects across Risk and Compliance and the wider Bank.
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- Strong Business Management and leadership experience in a large organisation.
- Excellent communication and inter-personal skills, with experience of dealing effectively with a variety of stakeholders at all levels.
- A sharp business mind with exceptional attention to detail, capable of interpreting, coordinating, communicating and responding to complex varied requests.
- Ability to develop practical, cost effective solutions to complex global issues.
- Exceptional organisational skills with demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritising a busy workload to produce positive outcomes.
- Proven ability to drive change and deliver results under pressure.
- Willingness and initiative to own work and problems and see through to completion.
- Extensive experience or University graduated preferably with a degree in Business Management, Accounting or Finance.
