HSBC’s Infrastructure Finance (HIF) Group is responsible for providing a full suite of services to our corporate and financial sponsor clients across multiple sectors, including Power & Utilities, Renewables, Digital & Telecoms, Transport, ESG and Carbon Neutral assets. The team provides a single point of access for advice on debt finance, capital structure and debt capital markets, as well as associated execution and delivery of mandates.

 

As a core strategic objective, HSBC via our HIF business will perform a critical role in supporting and financing the energy transition for our clients including new technologies.  HSBC has the ambition to become a net zero bank by 2050. The bank aims to provide and facilitate US$750 billion to US$1 trillion in sustainable finance and investments by 2030.

 

To meet our key growth objectives, we are expanding our market leading Infrastructure Finance team in Sydney with opportunities at both Director and Vice President levels. We are seeking proactive and highly skilled professionals to join our globally integrated network, providing prospective candidates with unrivalled access to market insights to support our client’s needs.

 

In this unique role as a Director based in Sydney, you will bring a mix of lending or advisory expertise to drive the origination and execution of transactions. In doing so, you will have full responsibility across the transaction lifecycle including interaction with internal and external stakeholders. Ideal candidates will be team players, highly motivated, passionate about infrastructure who enjoy being part of a collaborative high performing team. In addition to technical skills, excellent communication skills and ability to build strong stakeholder relationships will be key to success in this role.

 

Your main responsibilities will include:

 

  • Supporting HSBC’s infrastructure clients across a wide spectrum of infrastructure asset classes.
  • Originating and leading strategic deals, demonstrating quality thought leadership.
  • Development of internal strategy and business targets, and active improvement of HSBC’s infrastructure finance offering in Australia across advisory.
  • Providing leadership and mentorship to junior colleagues.
  • Coordinating and collaborating with other internal stakeholders and business units across regions within the bank.
  • Contributing to the execution of the group’s overall business plan.

 

To be successful in this role, you will need:

 

  • Significant demonstrated deal execution experience and proven track record in leading domestic or international infrastructure transactions across either advisory or lending.
  • Diverse experience across debt advisory, structured finance, project finance, ratings advisory and/or other lending products.
  • In-depth understanding of financial products available for infrastructure clients, including bank loans, institutional and private credit markets, debt capital markets, export finance, and hedging.
  • Understanding of sustainable finance principles, green loans, social loans and sustainability-linked loans.
  • Deep client relationships with key infrastructure sponsors and strategic developers of infrastructure assets, developed through excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organisational and project management skills with the ability to multitask effectively.
  • High levels of motivation and a strong work ethic to execute HSBC’s growth strategy.
  • Experience leading / mentoring less experienced staff.
  • Tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline. A post-graduate degree or CFA is an advantage.

 

Preference will be given to candidates who has Australian or New Zealand PR/Citizenship, or who can show they currently have unrestricted work rights in Australia without limitations.
