At HSBC we exist with the purpose of Opening up a World of Opportunity. We use our unique expertise, capabilities, breadth and perspectives to provide opportunities for our customers and colleagues through global connectivity. We bring together the people, ideas and capital that nurture progress and growth, helping to create a better world – for our customers, our people, our investors, our communities and the planet we all share.

As an HSBC employee in Australia, you’ll have access to tailored professional development opportunities, competitive pay, an embedded flexible working culture and a range of employee benefits. These include market-leading subsidised private health cover, enhanced parental pay and support when returning to work, subsidised banking products and services, bonus leave days and wellness programmes including discounted gym memberships.

Join HSBC Australia’s Transformation team, delivering strategic change that strengthens business performance, improves customer outcomes, strengthens controls and simplifies how we work. In this role, you’ll provide hands-on PMO support across a large, complex programme, partnering closely with the Programme Governance Lead to keep delivery controlled, transparent and outcomes-focused. You’ll help drive governance cadence, integrated planning, RAID/dependency discipline, financial and benefits oversight, and high-quality reporting using HSBC’s Change Framework and standard tooling (e.g., Clarity, Confluence).

Responsibilities:

  • Support the design and day-to-day operation of programme governance in line with the HSBC Change Framework
  • Support schedule/plan management, monitoring dependencies and milestones to deliver portfolio/programme outcomes aligned to delivery plans and PI Planning
  • Arrange governance forums (SteerCo, programme reviews, working groups), including agenda planning, pre-reads, minutes/decisions, and action tracking through to closure
  • Maintain governance artefacts (tollgates, approvals, decision logs) with audit-ready documentation and traceability
  • Operate programme control checks to monitor quality and adherence to standards, including relevant Functional Instruction Manuals and delivery methodology requirements (Agile/SAFe/Waterfall as applicable)
  • Coordinate change control activities, including impact assessments and ensuring scope/funding/outcome changes are reviewed and approved through the right forums
  • Maintain the integrated programme plan, ensuring milestones, critical path items and cross-workstream dependencies are visible and actively managed
  • Drive RAID and dependency management discipline across workstreams, escalating early with clear options, impacts and recommended actions; identify thematic risks/issues and escalate as required
  • Support programme financial oversight (budget, forecast, actuals, variances and key drivers), consolidating inputs across workstreams
  • Produce accurate, timely programme MI and dashboards across scope, schedule, financials, RAID, dependencies, benefits and governance actions, creating concise decision-ready packs for senior stakeholders

Requirements:

  • Recent graduate (or up to 1–2 years’ experience) in Business, Finance, Economics, Data/Analytics, Information Systems, Engineering or a related discipline
  • Strong interest in transformation, programme delivery and how large organisations execute strategy
  • Demonstrated ability to bring structure to ambiguity; organised, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple tasks and deadlines
  • Confident communicator with strong writing skills (minutes, actions, status updates) and the ability to engage stakeholders professionally
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to turn data into clear, decision-ready insights and dashboards
  • Comfortable learning new tools and ways of working quickly; exposure to Confluence/Clarity (or similar) is helpful but not essential
  • High integrity and discretion when handling sensitive programme information
  • Internship/placement experience in project delivery, PMO, consulting, operations, or banking is advantageous
  • Certifications are optional; interest in working towards PRINCE2 Foundation and Agile fundamentals is a plus

Preference will be given to candidates who hold Australian PR/Citizenship or New Zealand Citizenship, or who can demonstrate current unrestricted work rights in Australia without limitations.
