This is a key role within Compliance Assurance, providing independent, risk-based assurance over the design and operating effectiveness of controls that manage Regulatory Compliance (RC) and Financial Crime (FC) risks. The role supports the global, standardised Compliance Assurance methodology aligned to HSBC’s Risk Management Framework (RMF) and helps ensure material RC/FC risks are identified, assessed, tested and reported in a consistent way.
The role sits within the RC Assurance structure and functionally reports to the Head of RC Assurance, International Wealth & Personal banking (IWPB). While positioned in RC Assurance, the role holder has clear accountability for planning and delivering assurance reviews covering both RC and FC risk themes, including end-to-end assurance activity from risk assessment and scoping through fieldwork, issue validation, reporting, and follow-up.
In this role you will:
- Execute the local strategy for the RC and FC Compliance functions in country to assess the effectiveness of controls in the first and second line of defence.
- Be responsible for building and maintaining strong relationships with key stakeholders, including the Head of RC Assurance IWPB, relevant first and second line business and risk leaders in-country, Internal Audit, and local regulators
- Be a subject matter expert on assessing the effectiveness of risk management activities to meet industry standards, local regulatory obligations, bank policy and in translating assurance outcomes into clear actionable insights
- Lead and contribute to the delivery of assurance coverage across all Lines of Business and legal entities operating across the CIIOM islands and branches, ensuring assurance plans are driven by the risk profile, regulatory expectations, emerging threats, and control performance
To be successful in this role you should meet the following requirements:
- Up to date Regulatory and Financial Crime compliance knowledge, with experience in assurance or testing activities.
- Clear understanding of regulatory and financial crime compliance risk within the global financial services industry (including the three lines of defence model).
- Experience working within highly regulated markets.
- Capable of building positive and resilient partnerships with key senior stakeholders.
- Strong communication skills, inter-personal and influencing skills. Awareness of when and how to adapt communication style for different audiences.
- Highly motivated self-starter that can work collaboratively, delivers on time, has a strong attention to detail and has the tenacity and drive to overcome challenge.
