Job description
If you’re looking for a career that will help you stand out, join HSBC, and fulfil your potential - whether you want a career that could take you to the top, or an exciting new direction, we offer opportunities, support and rewards that will take you further.
We’re one of the largest banking and financial services organisations in the world, with a network that covers more than 50 countries and territories. We aim to be where the growth is, enabling businesses to thrive and economies to prosper, and, ultimately, helping people fulfil their hopes and realise their ambitions.
We’re currently seeking an experienced professional to join the Trust & Fiduciary Services Channel Islands team in the role of Risk and Control Manager.
This is a pivotal role that will see you driving the execution of the Non-Financial Risk (NFR) framework in the first line of defence on behalf of the CEO and COO while helping to cultivate a positive risk culture, acting as a champion in the understanding of the NFR framework. You will advise risk and control owners in the risk assessment process, support the control owners in their monitoring of key controls and determine control effectiveness. Provide support and oversight of issues and action plans.
You’ll also act as an independent expert, undertaking first line of defence assurance testing to confirm our business is operating in line with all relevant laws, regulations, and Group standards. You’ll dive deep into processes, conduct thematic reviews, and even take part in stress testing exercises, working with colleagues from other group TFS teams. Whether your focus is local or global, you’ll play a key part in making sure our controls are robust, effective, and future-ready.
As an HSBC employee in the Channel Islands and Isle of Man (CIIOM) you will have access to tailored professional development opportunities and a competitive pay and benefits package. This includes private healthcare for all employees, enhanced parental and adoption pay and support when you return to work, and a non-contributory pension scheme with a generous employer contribution.
In this role you’ll:
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with key stakeholders, staying up to date with business, regulatory, and industry changes
- Participate in the development and implementation of future-fit risk management frameworks and validate the design and operating effectiveness of key controls through inspection, inquiry, observation, sampling, re-performance and recalculation
- Review of risks and key controls through end-to-end process walkthroughs, events or thematic reviews, data-driven reviews or issue read across, and evidence reviews
- Provide oversight of appropriate controls requiring RCAs and Continuous Monitoring Assessments through Helios with Risk and control monitoring, control assurance, country risk assessments, risk logging/tracking, incident reporting and Management Information
- Track and follow up on actions from continuous monitoring and review work, escalating issues when needed and reporting progress to the Monitoring Control Manager
- Coordinate and posses oversight of training sessions to colleagues in the business where needed
To be successful in this role you should meet the following requirements:
- Proven background of working at this level in relevant environments such as Risk, Compliance and/or Governance
- Excellent written and spoken communication skills with experience of successfully influencing others, negotiating effectively and winning over audiences with compelling and persuasive presentations
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to present and communicate at a senior level
- Experience contributing to the implementation and monitoring of policies, governance frameworks, procedures, practices and standards to ensure quality, effective risk management and regulatory compliance
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to appropriately feedback and drive improvement, consistency and efficiency across various teams
- Independent, pro-active, and flexible in your way of working
- Discretion, as you’ll have access to sensitive information
