We’re currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role of Head of Risk Control & Governance  

As Head of Risk Control and Governance, you’ll direct governance and risk and control management across the Channel Islands and Isle of Man (CIIOM). Reporting to the Chief Control Officer (CCO) CIIOM you’ll oversee internal controls and the operational risk framework to help ensure the entity remains compliant. The role partners closely with line of business heads, subject matter experts and colleagues in Risk and Compliance and deputises for the CCO in relevant governance committees. You’ll set clear expectations for risk awareness and mitigation and ensure issues are escalated appropriately and remediated effectively. Success means robust governance reporting, well evidenced risk and control activity and clear oversight of incidents, assessments and open actions.

In this role you’ll:

  • Direct governance and risk and control management across Channel Islands and Isle of Man (CIIOM)
  • Oversee CIIOM internal controls and operational risk framework to support ongoing compliance
  • Serve as a key point of contact for business heads, subject matter experts and Compliance and deputise for the CCO in relevant governance committees
  • Coordinate enterprise risk assessment activity including the annual Enterprise-Wide Risk Assessment (EWRA)
  • Draft and complete Country update papers for local governance committees and regional or global governance where required
  • Run local entity risk and control business governance meetings and support effective senior management engagement and escalation
  • Embed alignment to the Global Operational Risk Management Framework (ORMF) including identification, escalation, mitigation and documentation of risks
  • Oversee control assurance activity including RCAs and Continuous Monitoring Assessments through Helios plus incident reporting, risk logging and management information
  • Coordinate and oversee training sessions for colleagues across the business where needed
  • Manage a team covering risk and control and governance and oversee remediation of open issues and gaps

 

 

To be successful in this role you should meet the following requirements:

  • Bring proven experience across risk, transformation and governance in regulated environments
  • Demonstrate understanding of the Channel Islands and Isle of Man context and Wealth and Personal Banking
  • Show strong stakeholder management and influencing capability across business and control functions
  • Communicate clearly including summarising complex detail for senior stakeholders
  • Evidence a track record of delivering complex projects and or programmes using appropriate tools to track outcomes
  • Apply strategic decision making that considers risk, long term implications, commercial realities and stakeholder needs
  • Build and deploy comprehensive business or operating plans that deliver agreed outcomes
  • Strengthen risk and compliance management by applying best practice and supporting implementation and monitoring of policies, governance frameworks, procedures and standards
  • Maintain high attention to detail and use feedback loops to improve consistency, efficiency and control effectiveness across teams
  • Hold risk or compliance qualifications or equivalent demonstrable experience
