We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role of Financial Crime Advisory Manager – IWPB
The Risk and Compliance function is a Second Line of Defence (2LOD) function, responsible for reviewing and challenging the activities of the Group’s businesses, also referred to as the First Line of Defence (1LOD). The function ensures that businesses effectively manage, as Risk Owners, the risks inherent in or arising from their activities.
The Second Line of Defence consists of Risk SMEs who are independent of the commercial risk-taking activities undertaken by the First Line of Defence. The Risk and Compliance function acts as the Risk SME for a number of non-financial risks in accordance with the HSBC Group risk framework.
As Financial Crime Advisory Manager, you’ll provide advisory services to ensure a clear understanding of Financial Crime risk exposure relating to clients, transactions and products. You’ll support International Wealth and Premier Banking (IWPB) line management in ensuring that all business is conducted in accordance with the letter and spirit of applicable laws, rules, regulations, codes of practice, the Global Standards Manual and the Compliance section of the Global Risk FIM.
You’ll influence a broad area of regulated activity across internal departments and governance committees, taking a proactive and innovative approach to risk management and helping to ensure that the environment in which supported entities operate is fully compliant.

In this role, you will
- Articulate Financial Crime and Fraud risks for IWPB and provide clear, concise, constructive and customer-conscious advice and strategic guidance in a timely manner.
- Support IWPB Financial Crime Advisory in maintaining an effective control framework and ensuring compliance with relevant external laws and regulations, internal codes and policies, and good market practices.
- Provide advisory services to the IWPB business to ensure a clear understanding of Financial Crime risk exposure relating to clients, transactions and products.
- Support second-line governance of Financial Crime and Fraud risk exposures by providing independent analysis, reporting and governance to CIIOM.
- Assist the Head of IWPB and relevant senior management, Risk and Compliance colleagues and other stakeholders on material compliance-related matters.
- Support the implementation of Financial Crime policies, working with Risk and Compliance Risk SMEs to oversee gap analysis and successful implementation.
- Support the oversight and development of CIIOM’s approach to Conduct Risk, working with Risk Stewards to increase awareness and embed the Group’s approach to Conduct Risk management.
To be successful in this role you should meet the following requirements:
- A robust level of Compliance, Financial Crime and financial services knowledge and experience, including practical knowledge of Retail and Wealth Banking and related legislation, orders and codes of practice.
- Experience of markets and financial services conducted within the Channel Islands and Isle of Man (CIIOM) or an offshore environment.
- Strong interpersonal skills, integrity and the ability to engage confidently with stakeholders at all levels.
- Good oral and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex issues and deliver strong messages where necessary to mitigate regulatory risk.
- The ability and drive to raise standards and strengthen Financial Crime and Fraud culture across the business.
- Experience of managing relationships with regulators and auditors.
- Proven analytical and reporting skills, with the ability to support decisions through sound reasoning and use initiative to interpret and resolve complex issues.
- An internationally recognised qualification in Compliance or Financial Crime, or a willingness to work towards obtaining one.
