FX Product Specialist
St Helier, JE, JE, JE1 1HS
Job description
If you’re looking for a career that will help you stand out, join HSBC, and fulfil your potential - whether you want a career that could take you to the top, or an exciting new direction, we offer opportunities, support and rewards that will take you further.
We’re one of the largest banking and financial services organisations in the world, with a network that covers more than 50 countries and territories. We aim to be where the growth is, enabling businesses to thrive and economies to prosper, and, ultimately, helping people fulfil their hopes and realise their ambitions.
We’re currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role of FX Product Specialist based in Jersey, Channel Islands.
The FX Specialist is a customer-facing, execution-only (non-advised) role responsible for executing spot FX trades for customers who contact the FX Product Pricing Desk directly and/or transact via approved dealing platforms (e.g., Evolve FX and MWS).
All activity must be conducted within the FX pricing framework and delegated authorities. Trades must comply with governance requirements, discretionary pricing controls, and audit-trail standards, with clear documentation to support audit-ready outcomes. The role contributes to desk performance through consistently strong service, disciplined spread management, and effective relationship coverage across Retail/Premier, including Premier Expat and Channel Islands, Isle of Man (CIIOM) customers.
The role also provides deposit pricing support, negotiating deposit interest rates with customers in line with bank pricing guidance and securing required approvals. This supports the growth and retention of high-quality balances while protecting profitability.
As an HSBC employee in the Channel Islands and Isle of Man (CIIOM) you will have access to tailored professional development opportunities and a competitive pay and benefits package. This includes private healthcare for all employees, enhanced parental and adoption pay and support when you return to work, and a non-contributory pension scheme with a generous employer contribution.
In this role you’ll:
- Execute spot FX transactions on an execution-only (non-advised) basis, ensuring customer instructions are clear, confirmed, and accurately captured through to booking and settlement.
- Explain pricing and execution clearly—rates, spreads, execution method, settlement considerations and key FX risks—without providing advice or personal recommendations.
- Operate strictly within the FX pricing framework, applying discretionary margins responsibly and within delegated authority, while delivering disciplined spread outcomes and strong customer service.
- Maintain an audit-ready control environment, documenting a clear “reasonable basis” for discretionary trades, completing daily reconciliations/checks, and escalating any exceptions for review.
- Build and manage client relationships across Retail and high-net-worth segments, providing responsive coverage, appropriate market colour (within execution-only boundaries), and guidance on available execution channels.
- Support deposit pricing activities, negotiating within bank guidance, preparing exception proposals, and securing/retaining approvals to protect profitability and grow high-quality balances.
To be successful in this role you should meet the following requirements:
- Role-relevant Level 4 qualification (Dip CII, CISI or equivalent QCF RDR Level 4) — completed or in progress is an advantage.
- Demonstrable experience executing spot FX in a customer-facing environment, with strong discipline around pricing controls, conduct standards, and audit trail requirements.
- Solid understanding of controlled dealing practices, including discretionary pricing within delegated authority, documentation/justification standards, and escalation protocols.
- Proven ability to build trusted customer relationships via phone and digital channels, with strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Effective stakeholder management, with the ability to work closely with Compliance, Risk and Internal Control to maintain a balanced and well-controlled operating environment.
- Proficiency in trade booking and dealing platforms (e.g., MWS, Evolve FX, or equivalent), with a focus on accurate booking and operational rigour.
- Strong personal organisation—able to prioritise, meet deadlines, and manage high volumes while maintaining accuracy and control.
Opening up a world of opportunity.
