We are currently seeking an experienced individual to join this team in the role of Analyst Programmer, based in Jersey.
An IBM iSeries RPG Developer in the banking sector is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining applications on the IBM iSeries (AS/400) platform using RPG (Report Program Generator) language. This role is crucial in ensuring the bank’s core banking systems are robust, reliable, and capable of meeting the evolving needs of the business. The developer will work closely with various stakeholders to support and enhance banking operations through efficient and effective software solutions.
In this role, you will have the following key responsibilities:
Application Development:
- Develop and maintain software products in the Core Banking technology stack
- Enhance existing applications to improve functionality, performance, and user experience.
System Maintenance and Production Support:
- Perform regular maintenance on existing iSeries applications to ensure optimal performance.
- Provide technical support and troubleshooting for iSeries-related issues, ensuring timely resolution to minimize disruption to banking operations.
Requirements Gathering and Analysis:
- Collaborate with product owners, users, and other stakeholders to gather and analyse requirements for new applications or enhancements.
- Translate business requirements into technical specifications and system designs.
Database Management:
- Design and maintain databases on the iSeries platform, ensuring data integrity and security.
- Optimize database performance through tuning and efficient data management practices.
Integration and Interfacing:
- Develop and maintain interfaces between iSeries applications and other systems within the bank’s technology ecosystem.
- Ensure seamless data flow and integration across various platforms and applications.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for all developed applications, including design specifications, user manuals, and technical guides.
- Generate reports and provide insights to stakeholders on application performance and usage.
Quality Assurance:
- Conduct thorough testing of applications to ensure they meet functional and performance requirements.
- Implement quality assurance processes to maintain high standards of code quality and reliability.
To be successful in this role you should meet the following requirements:
- Hands-on experience of Application Design & Development in Banking domain
- Strong knowledge of change management policies, code packaging, planning change and deployment into production
- Strong knowledge of MQ, Connect Direct and API interface setup on iSeries- Solid understanding of IBM iSeries architecture and operating system.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Familiarity with other programming languages (e.g. Python, Java) and Devops Tools used in the bank’s technology stack (e.g. Jenkins/JIRA/Confluence)
- Advanced degree in a related field.
