We are currently seeking a high caliber professional to join us as a Principal in the Energy Transition Infrastructure, Asia Pacific team. This team sits in the Asset Management business of HSBC, and is a direct private equity investment team.

In this role you will:

  • Research and map investment opportunities across the Energy Transition Infrastructure sector in Asia Pacific (excluding mainland China), with a primary focus on Australia and a secondary focus on Korea.
  • Build and maintain a high-quality network of market participants (for example developers, contractors, licensed brokerage firms, banks and advisers), leveraging the wider HSBC Group network where appropriate.
  • Source investment opportunities aligned to the Energy Transition Infrastructure strategy, complete initial screening, and present preliminary analysis to senior team members.
  • Project-manage end-to-end due diligence and execution, including managing external advisers and question-and-answer processes, preparing business plans, and leading commercial negotiations with transaction counterparties.
  • Produce robust investment analysis and financial cash flow models to support internal papers and governance, and you’ll manage the internal approval process (including liaison with relevant internal approval functions and the Investment Committee).
  • Actively manage investments through the hold period to meet risk/return objectives, including oversight of counterparties and/or portfolio companies and (where appropriate) representing the shareholder via board roles.
  • Support financing activities and follow-on investments by preparing modelling, information materials and approval papers, coordinating due diligence, and negotiating commercial terms.
  • Embed Environmental, Social and Governance considerations into the investment approach, using internal and third-party data, active engagement and governance frameworks.

To be successful you will need:

  • Advanced experience in energy transition, infrastructure and/or renewables investing (for example within an investment bank, law firm, or fund manager).
  • Advanced experience and proven market knowledge across Asia Pacific Energy Transition Infrastructure, with strong, demonstrable familiarity with the Australian market.
  • Advanced experience building and leveraging a relevant regional network (especially across Australia) spanning developers, contractors, brokers, banks, advisers and other market participants.
  • Advanced experience in investment due diligence and execution, including developing business plans, structuring transactions, and managing advisers and workstreams.
  • Advanced experience in financial modelling (including cash flow modelling) and the ability to assess sector trends, value drivers, valuations and investment terms.
  • Korean language capability is beneficial; experience working in additional Asia Pacific markets (especially Korea) is beneficial.

Subject to local laws, this will require the individual to satisfactorily pass a series of additional checks as part of the recruitment process and on an ongoing basis, if appointed to the role.
