Job description
We are currently seeking a high calibre professional to join our team as a Principal, Real Estate.
In this role you will:
- Originate and execute real estate investments across Asia for the Asia Living strategy, partnering with Managing Principals.
- Build and maintain a strong sourcing network (developers, owners, brokers, advisers, banks) to generate proprietary and intermediated opportunities.
- Lead initial deal screening and pipeline prioritisation, ensuring opportunities meet strategy, return and risk criteria.
- Deliver robust underwriting: financial modelling, valuation, sensitivities and related analysis to support investment decisions.
- Prepare and clearly present Investment Committee / governance approval papers and investment thesis materials for internal and external stakeholders.
- Coordinate end-to-end transaction execution, including due diligence management with internal teams (Risk, Legal, Finance, Ops) and external providers.
- Drive post-investment value creation: develop and deliver business plans, performance monitoring, reporting and insights through to exit.
- Lead/ support dispositions (hold–sell analysis, structuring, modelling, negotiations) and ensure consistent ESG integration and risk analysis across the lifecycle.
To be successful you will need:
- 15+ years’ investment and asset management experience in real assets (ideally pan-Asia; living sector exposure; property and operating company experience).
- Strong knowledge of Asian real assets markets, particularly the living sector and relevant sub-segments.
- Proven track record in structuring, executing and managing investments from origination through to exit.
- Advanced financial modelling/valuation capability with strong analytical judgement and attention to detail alongside strategic oversight.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, including the ability to write and defend approval papers with senior stakeholders/investors.
- Strong collaboration across functions and jurisdictions; aligned to HSBC values (including Sustainability and DEI); degree in a relevant discipline; comfortable with tools such as Microsoft Office, Bloomberg and financing/modelling tools.
