We are currently seeking a high calibre professional to join our team as a ASEAN Financials Analyst, Global Investment Research.
HSBC Global Investment Research (GIR) is a ‘CIB client servicing and revenue generating’ global business unit, positioned as one of the key business lines of CIB. GIR is an independent research house with a strong focus on Emerging Markets (EMs). We have analysts covering 1,700+ companies, 60+ economies, 45+ sovereigns’ rates and 50+ currencies globally. In addition to partnering with the CIB clients, Global Research also collaborates with the rest of the Group businesses, such as IWPB.

Role overview
The role is responsible for the equity coverage of ASEAN banking and financials sectors, providing investment recommendations and sector insights for listed banks across ASEAN markets. This will involve developing detailed financial models, analysing financial data, generating actionable investment ideas and producing in-depth research reports. The analyst will engage directly with institutional investors, corporate management teams and internal stakeholders to communicate views, support investment decisions, and drive client engagement. The role requires a self-driven research professional with deep understanding of the ASEAN banking landscape and proven ability to deliver high-quality analysis and thought leadership.
Purpose of the job
- Work as part of ASEAN research team responsible for coverage of the ASEAN financials sector.
- Build, develop and maintain comprehensive financial models for banks under coverage.
- Perform detailed financial, valuation, and peer analysis to generate actionable investment recommendations.
- Produce research reports, including company initiations, earnings updates, and thematic or sector reports.
- Cultivate strong relationships with both internal stakeholders and external clients (Institutional investors, corporates).
- Attend and report on corporate events, roadshows, company presentations and conferences.
- Manage client requests efficiently and take full ownership of workflow and deliverables.
Skills/Experience Required
Skill Set
- Proven expertise in financial modelling, valuation and earnings forecasting.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with attention to details.
- An excellent communicator, with strong verbal and written skills.
- A team-player who enjoys knowledge sharing and collaborations.
- A proactive, resourceful and commercially minded analyst with ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Mastering of regional language a plus.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related discipline preferred.
Experience
- Minimum 7 years of relevant sell-side or buy-side research experience, ideally covering the financials sector.

- Understand and adhere to both the letter and the spirit of all laws, regulations and regulatory guidance that apply to the role, promptly reporting any breaches in accordance with local procedures.
- Maintain sufficient and effective processes and controls identifying and mitigating risks and ensure timely escalation and resolution of all control issues and reputation risks
Compliance
- DIM/FIM: Adherence to Global Research’s policies and procedures as laid out in the Desk Instruction Manual (DIM), Functional Instruction Manual (FIM) and any other relevant group policies and procedures
- Conduct Risk: Adherence to: (1) the Conduct Risk agenda, ensuring full compliance with the High-Performance Culture and Values programme; (2) Group directives regarding Global Standards; (3) the Three Lines of Defence
- Mandatory Training: Ensure completion of assigned trainings on time
The chosen candidate for this role will be required to undergo enhanced vetting. Subject to local laws, this will require the individual to satisfactorily pass a series of additional checks as part of the recruitment process and on an ongoing basis, if appointed to the role.
