Principal responsibilities:

  • The role requires a strong leader to oversee the solution design and implementation of change whilst at the same time ensuring production is resilient and performant. This includes interaction with the bank’s architects, other systems and technical teams, end users and stakeholders.
  • The person is expected to oversee and guide the day-to-day activities of the technical team, with the help of experienced colleagues, ensuring the team follows good practice etc. In addition, this person will be able to suggest and plan best technical solutions, undertake problem solving, etc whilst balancing pragmatism vs long tern best practice. 
  • This role includes hands on development and analysis and is not just team management.
  • Role covers a mix of change and run responsibilities. Current team size is around 45 people located in UK, India, China, Poland and Mexico but predominately India.
  • Should be flexible in working hours, ready to work in shift and on call

Requirements

  • Background in hands-on technical development, industry experience in a data engineering or engineering equivalent and in managing a team of developers
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to convey technical detail in a non-technical language, with demonstrable experience of working in rapidly changing client environment and have the gravitas to represent the platform in senior meetings
  • Needs to be a practitioner and proponent of Agile and Dev Ops
  • Proficiency in Hadoop, Spark, Scala, Python, or a programming language associated with data engineering.
  • Expertise in building and deploying production level data solutions maintained by application support teams.
  • Knowledge of testing libraries of common programming languages (such as ScalaTest or equivalent). Knows the difference between different test types (unit test, integration test) and can cite specific examples of what they have written themselves.
  • Good understanding of CDP 7.1, HDFS filesystems, Unix, Unix Shell Scripting, Elasticsearch
  • Experience in understanding and analyzing complex business requirements and carry out the system design accordingly.
  • Good to have –
    • Quantexa Data Engineering Certification
    • Experience in managed services AWS EKS, Azure EKS
    • Experience in Angular
    • Microservices (OCP, Kubernetes)
