We are seeking a Technical Lead – API to join the newly formed CTO Developer Platforms, Standards and Controls team.
You’ll be the technical lead across a new product that helps teams inventory their APIs, see compliance against HSBC API standards, and access compliant designs to support delivery. You’ll also integrate, evolve and streamline the product’s associated applications into a coherent end-to-end user journey for our customers.

In this role you will:
- Be a proactive, collaborative and inquisitive member of the Standards and Controls leadership team
- Act as a key technical leader, overseeing delivery from inception to completion
- Shape and refine the bank’s API standards, gathering customer feedback and iterating
- Explore AI opportunities (e.g., AI review feedback integrated into standards assessments)
- Lead/facilitate product planning and prioritisation aligned to the future vision for API standards and tooling
- Align and communicate product roadmaps with customers at the centre of change
- Champion the use of data and metrics to understand and improve customer outcomes
- Provide guidance and mentorship to development teams; ensure best practices and continuous learning
To be successful in this role you should meet the following requirements:
- Extensive hands-on software development experience across multiple languages/frameworks
- Strong grounding in software fundamentals: design patterns, data structures, algorithms, architecture
- Experience applying AI to software development patterns/processes to improve delivery at scale
- Proven leadership skills (guiding teams, creating a productive environment)
- Product/project management capability (planning, resourcing, delivery)
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills for complex technical challenges
- Experience working in a control environment or with Technology controls
- Experience working in a global organisation with distributed teams and strong collaboration skills
