Job description

If you’re looking for a career that will help you stand out, join HSBC, and fulfil your potential - whether you want a career that could take you to the top, or simply take you in an exciting new direction, HSBC offers opportunities, support and rewards that will take you further.

HSBC is one of the largest banking and financial services organisations in the world, with operations in 64 countries and territories. We aim to be where the growth is, enabling businesses to thrive and economies to prosper, and, ultimately, helping people to fulfil their hopes and realise their ambitions.

We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role of Senior Enterprise Architect.

CIB IT delivers technology that powers banking services for corporate, commercial and global banking clients, providing a comprehensive set of capabilities to meet clients’ needs worldwide. Within this, Credit and Capital Management is on a major global transformation programme, with significant investment to modernise platforms and deliver industry-leading solutions for customers and colleagues.

You’ll partner with business architects to translate target business processes and functions into functional components and the interactions between them, then work with solution architects and technical leads to shape delivery roadmaps and drive implementation and adoption. You’ll operate in a large, complex environment spanning legacy technologies from multiple eras, ensuring business-critical systems remain stable while new, modern components, built with open architecture, APIs and microservices, data/ML capabilities, and cloud where appropriate are introduced progressively to support Commercial Banking growth ambitions.

As an HSBC employee in the UK, you will have access to tailored professional development opportunities and a competitive pay and benefits package. This includes private healthcare for all UK-based employees, enhanced maternity and adoption pay and support when you return to work, and a contributory pension scheme with a generous employer contribution.

In this role you’ll:

  • Build a thorough understanding of existing and target business functions, processes and assets
  • Understand how current systems/components enable those capabilities, with particular focus on problem areas
  • Partner with Business Architects to translate target capabilities into functional components and clear functional boundaries
  • Drive technical realisation of functional components, working with Solution Architects and Technical Leads to map functional components into the right UI, processing, data, and messaging designs
  • Engage vendors to assess suitability (or otherwise) of potential vendor components
  • Work with business and programme management to define implementation/adoption roadmaps that maintain service continuity and realise benefits early
  • Provide business knowledge to Solution/Technical Architecture and Engineering teams, and legacy systems knowledge to Business/Solution/Technical Architects
  • Demonstrate leadership on Regulatory & Compliance; maintain awareness of operational risk and support identification, mitigation, control and reporting

To be successful in this role you should meet the following requirements:

  • Proficient Enterprise / solution architecture including design skills with ability to produce “fit for purpose solution designs” following best practices
  • Ability to build high-level proposals (e.g., Clear Choice) and clearly articulate pros/cons in business terms to enable sound decisions
  • Skilled in analysing requirements and translating business capability into functional components and architecture
  • Effective graphical, written and verbal communication for both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Experience using agile methods, understanding their limitations, and knowing how to overcome them in complex environments
  • Experience designing/implementing highly scalable, highly available cloud services (e.g., GCP/Azure)
  • Breadth across modern + legacy technology stacks such as Docker, Kubernetes, microservices, API gateways (Kong), REST, Kafka, React
  • Familiarity with large-scale transformation using analytics and AI/ML
