Our Wealth and Personal Banking business supports millions of individuals, families, business owners, investors and entrepreneurs worldwide. We provide products and services that include current accounts, credit cards, personal loans and mortgages, as well as savings, investments, insurance and wealth management. We also have specialised relationship managers who support customers with bespoke requirements, including high net worth and ultra-high-net-worth clients.
The Complex Credit & Oversight Team is a 2nd LoD team responsible for making quality decisions on high value, secured and unsecured applications using a specialist mandate. We provide oversight on our colleagues in 1LoD to ensure we have a competent underwriting team.
The role of the GCB5 Credit and Oversight Manager is to assess the financial circumstances of our customers who are applying for complex and high value lending facilities and to provide well-reasoned credit lending decisions. As part of the role, you will provide credit assessments and recommendations whilst minimising any credit, fraud, regulatory and conduct risks. The role will also require you to provide constructive feedback to the branch network, direct sales channels, and the intermediary market. At all times you will treat our customers fairly, making this a driving factor in everything you do, whilst also managing and developing yourself to ensure that all standards, disciplines, and internal controls are adhered to.

In this role you will:
- Servicing our high-net-worth customers with secured and unsecured applications, analysing systemic and customer information, using initiative, applying judgment and providing robust and well-balanced lending decisions on large loan mortgage facilities.
- Considering policy exceptions where appropriate, whilst considering the potential long-term risks and making the best decision for the customer and the bank.
- Accountable for delivery of quality decisions against prescribed targets and responsible for volume and timeliness of outcomes.
- Provide oversight on our colleagues in 1LoD to ensure competency and effective use and understanding of policy and procedure.
- Work closely with 1LoD underwriting teams to enhance 1LoD underwriting skillset and to provide guidance and feedback to improve the customer journey.
- Critically review policy and procedures providing evidence-based recommendations for change, working with Secured Credit Risk team to support development of policy and proposition.
- Support change initiatives and operational change programmes.
To be successful in this role you should meet the following requirements:
- Experience within a specialist underwriting function or team with an enhanced lending mandate, with experience of dealing with retail banking secured and unsecured facilities.
- Proven track record of making high value, complex lending decisions with authority, at expert level.
- Excellent stakeholder management skills and ability to deal with multiple stakeholders at any one time.
- Excellent written and spoken communication skills; an ability to communicate with impact, ensuring complex information is articulated in a meaningful way to wide and varied audiences.
- Excellent time management to ensure peak productivity and workload managed effectively.
- A desire to find ways to continually improve the service delivered to customers.
This role is based in Sheffield but we are willing to consider other locations with one day in the office in Sheffield.
