You’ll be helping us be digital-first when developing new products and services, as well as enhancing existing ones by providing software development and support to each of our Global Businesses and Global Functions.

Using best-in-class technologies, you'll deliver end-to-end execution of all technology services consumed across the HSBC landscape, including change programmes and applications in production.

The principal responsibility of the Lead engineer role is to serve as an expert in the technology’s delivery area and support Domestic and Emerging payments (DOME) for UK. The role holder will work on UK Domestic Payments applications mainly covering Pay UK schemes (Faster Payments, BACS, Cash and Cheques).

The purpose of the role is to support legacy payments applications and deliver payments technology strategy and payments future state of architecture (FSA). The role will be based in Sheffield and the candidate will report to the Head of technology for domestic payments UK

In this role you will:

• Work with architecture team and application team and participate analysis of the UK Domestic Payments project requirement.
• Participate the design/development for the application of DOME UK spaces using the HSBC framework.
• Ensure design and development aligns to agreed Architecture and HSBC standards.
• Support the payments applications as required working with colleagues 24x5 + Saturday mornings
• Follow internal DevOps principals.
• Coordinate with stakeholders.
• Support the Head of DOME UK technology, by providing guidance, consultancy and driving towards FSA (future state architecture) for Global Payments Solution (GPS) business.


To be successful in this role you should meet the following requirements:

• Strong experience in designing and creating architectural artefacts such as gap analysis, low level designs, data models etc.
• Engineering background in back-end application development, application security and authentication development, springboot, cache and middleware
• Development experience on Java, C/C++, Python, Windows and knowledge of certificates and HSM’s, knowledge of GitHub
• Solid knowledge on infrastructure like Linux OS, networking, storage, load-balancer, etc.
• Expertise in distributed system design like microservices, Springboot.
• Expertise in docker, k8s, service mesh
• Expertise in monitoring and observability technologies like AppDynamics, Splunk, Jaeger, Kiali, Open Telemetry.

This role is based in Sheffield.
