Kafka Kubernetes Platform Engineer

Job Overview

This role maps to a Specialist Engineering profile where knowledge of engineering and architecture combine to build strategies and roadmaps to align to our customers.  

The role involves working closely with the Kafka Architects and other Kafka Engineers to build out the Enterprise Event Platform offering.  Engineers will be encouraged to engage with customers of the platform to understand the usage patterns and work together closing out any functional gaps.

Key Responsibilities

• Work alongside product owners, technical leads and customers delivering an event driven messaging and streaming solution.
• Implement monitoring in Kubernetes platform and manage RBAC in Kubernetes platform
• Implement patterns that provide customers with robust deployment options to match HSBC service tiering.
• Standing up and administer Kafka clusters operating on bare-metal GKE Kubernetes on-Prem.
• Provide expertise in Kafka brokers, zookeepers, Kraft, Kafka connect, schema registry, KSQL, Rest proxy and Kafka Control centre along with expertise and hands on experience working on Kafka connect using schema registry in a very high volume.
• Provide administration and operations of the Kafka platform - provisioning, access lists Kerberos and SSL configurations, topic management etc.
• Involve in design and capacity review meetings to provide suggestions in Kafka usage.
• Implementing an observability pane that provides SRE visibility for the platform in line with the Banks observability strategy.

Key Technologies

• Proficient experience in container platform - Kubernetes
• Good experience or knowledge in Messaging technologies –Kafka (opensource & commercial distributions)
• Strong background in DevOps toolsets – GitHub, JIRA, Confluence, Jenkins, Automation – Ansible
• Experience in Monitoring –Observability tools such as Grafana, Prometheus, Splunk, DataDog
