We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role of Head of Next Generation Cryptography.

Role Purpose:
The  role is central to HSBC’s global Cryptography Transformation Programme, ensuring the bank is prepared for quantum-safe cryptography and future cryptographic technologies. The successful candidate will define strategy, drive adoption, and lead delivery of cryptographic capabilities across on-premise and cloud environments. 
This role repots to the Head of Cryptographic Services and works specifically on how we prepare for quantum safe cryptography and the roll out of new cryptography technologies.. The role acts as a capability specialist. Capability specialists focus on their area and define and contribute to the capability strategy, supported by Enterprise Architecture, Security Architecture and Control Owners, in response to business strategies, regulator expectations, technology and practice advancement.

In this role you will:

• Define, shape, and deliver HSBC’s vision, strategy, and roadmap for quantum-safe cryptography.
• Act as a capability specialist for cryptographic identity and emerging technologies.
• Lead internal teams and external partners in uplifting technology and practices.
• Collaborate with business and technology owners to agree on scope, priorities, and adoption plans.
• Ensure tooling and capabilities are deployed effectively across global environments.
• Develop and deliver training and awareness programs to stakeholders and cybersecurity teams.
• Anticipate regulatory, technological, and market changes to future-proof HSBC’s cryptographic posture.
 

To be successful in this role you should meet the following requirements:

• Strong background in cybersecurity and cryptographic technologies..
• Deep knowledge of industry standards and frameworks (NIST, FIPS, PCI DSS).
• Experience working with engineering and delivery teams, ensuring alignment with IT strategy.
• Familiarity with hardware security models and how cryptography integrates into enterprise systems.
• Exceptional stakeholder engagement skills (executive, technical, regulatory).
• Skilled in change management – from setting strategy to ensuring implementation.
• Excellent understanding of cybersecurity principles, global financial services business models, as well as regional compliance standards, relevant local regulations, and applicable laws,
• (Note: A strong mathematics background is not essential – focus is on leadership, delivery, and strategy.)

Nice-to-Haves (Desirable Experience & Skills)
•      A background in information systems, technology, architecture, design, and service delivery of defence-in-depth capabilities,
•      Demonstrated leadership experience with large, complex programmes
•      An ability to communicate complex and technical issues to diverse audiences, orally and in writing, in an easily understood, authoritative and actionable manner.


This role is based in Sheffield, Grosvenor House, Hybrid.
