Business Risk Resilience Technology is a significant part of the PGC & GCOO Technology portfolio, within the wider Enterprise Technology Organisation.
Business Risk Resilience Technology provides technology leadership and partnership for the Business Risk Resilience/GCOO business function, covering:
- BCIM & IRM – Business Continuity and Incident Management and Integrated Risk Management
- Ops Resilience – Core Tooling, Data and Supporting App Enhancements, Third Part Risk Enhancements, Embedding & Vulnerability Remediations.
- Servco – OCiR Technical Debt and Servco Billing
- Controls & RCB – Risk Controls Book
The role holder will lead the Business Risk Resilience Technology function and act a strong partner to business teams delivering evolutionary and transformation change and technology service assurance, working with regional and global business / technology leads to provide optimised global services adjusted to address regional requirements where appropriate. This is a global role covering all software delivery including responsibility for strategy, budget, people, vendor service management, contracts and risks. Budget for 2026 is approx. $52M CTB, with a current total headcount of approx. 50.
Job Requirements:
- Act as the senior leader and overall service owner of the Business Risk Resilience Technology estate for HSBC
- Drive the transformation of the Business Risk Resilience technology estate over next 3+ years demising legacy solutions and contributing towards key initiatives such as ESG and improving colleague experience.
- Drive the objectives of the broader technology transformation including Engineering and Service Excellence and Digital Acceleration Programme.
- Deliver initiatives and book of work, including:
- Data Platform implementation
- BCMNow Crisis Management and Integrated Risk Management deployment
- ServCo, OCiR: Technical Debt - Replace complex, over-customised functionality with out-of-box provisions
- ServCo OCIR: Deliver a single interactive view of role designations for all outstanding tasks for end users; a regulatory requirement
- BCIM IRM: Automated continuous control monitoring for BCM lifecycle and OpsRes activities.
- Ops Res: Regulatory compliance (UK) - Achieve regulatory compliance and transition to BAU for UK Entities with PRA/FCA SS1/21
- Tooling - Enhancements to embed and sustain OpRes Framework across HSBC
- Represent Technology on the BRR Exco and build a relationship of trust and influence with the Business Risk Resilience team
- Build strong relationships with vendors to ensure high performance and robust/resilient service delivery
- Partner with internal and vendor teams to shape the strategy and enterprise architecture for all systems used globally. Understand market trends in relation to services in scope and map innovations to service problems and outcomes across services.
- Develop and maintain a close relationship with CTO teams closely associated with Business Risk Resilience including AV, Telecomms, BRR Portfolio, End User Services and Data Centre Operations
- Develop and maintain a close relationship with Cyber teams closely associated with Business Risk Resilience E.g. Cyber Research and Offensive Security
- Manage production support and infrastructure to be aligned to allow for resilience, control and high-quality performance of systems and processes.
- Monitor services effectively across the domain and maintain and improve Net Promotor Scores across the technology service.
- Manage all spend in line with technology RTB and CTB budgets for the service line.
- Ensure alignment with the wider HSBC Technology controls and vendor management frameworks
- Report on change delivery and service quality status on behalf of service line.
- Ensure Technology and operational risks are appropriately controlled in line with Group and business objectives.
- Work with relevant Regional CIOs and procurement to ensure compliance with all regulatory needs in each operational geography.
- Ensure all audit findings are effectively addressed with no repeat ‘high risk’ findings between audits.
- Manage and continually optimise the workforce in line with wider Technology targets, including temp/perm ratios, location, orchestration
- Drive team engagement and cultural initiatives for the function. Engage and develop an effective global team through town halls, communication, performance management, development plans and reward/recognition practices.
- Cultivate an environment that supports diversity and reflects the HSBC brand and values.
- Remain current on data, digital and emerging trends affecting the Financial Services industry and the Prop Tech domain.
Qualification and Skills:
- An experience technology leader with a proven track record of on time delivery and innovation.
- Expert in Technology transformation and global system deployments in a banking environment and expert level program management skills.
- Experience of implementing and owning SaaS/Cloud solutions and mobile capabilities. Knowledge of Appian and Service Now platforms.
- Ability to manage and innovate in a global setting across a fragmented estate.
- Vendor management expertise including in an outsourced model.
- Strong data and integration experience and an understanding of APIs.
- Track record of DevOps and Agile adoption and optimisation.
- Strong financial acumen, budgeting and forecasting.
- Track record of forming strong partnerships with external vendors and assurance of their deliverables.
- People leadership experience. Dynamic with an ability to drive culture change and engagement.
- Ability to communicate with senior stakeholders with gravitas. Strong communications skills, influencing and negotiation.
- Excellent written skills with ability to express complex topics and problems effectively.
- Strong risk and issue management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple threads of work under pressure.
- Experience of working with complex stakeholders in a global setting.
- Ability to develop new and adapt existing processes for increased quality and efficiency whilst encouraging others to seek new ideas/solutions to day-to-day problems.
