Join our IBMz team and help run one of the UK’s most demanding and business-critical Db2 for z/OS estates. You’ll work at the heart of core banking technology balancing resilience, performance and change at pace - supporting 50+ Db2 subsystems across multiple mainframes and geographies, and helping us modernise through automation and continuous delivery.
In this role you’ll:
- Deliver Db2 for z/OS systems programming across a complex UK database estate supporting 50+ subsystems.
- Install and test new Db2 for z/OS releases and manage ongoing maintenance for Db2 and tooling.
- Support distributed Db2 connections and operate confidently in a data shared environment.
- Monitor, tune and protect performance for a high-volume OLTP (CICS)/Db2 workload.
- Improve reliability and recoverability by designing and implementing automation and engineering solutions.
- Lead capacity planning and ensure storage and archiving procedures are robust and functioning correctly.
- Manage security and contribute to disaster recovery, including back-up and recovery plan development and testing.
- Provide production support and troubleshooting, delivering fast response to incidents and communicating effectively with technical and operational stakeholders.
To be successful in this role you should meet the following requirements:
- Extensive experience as a Db2 for z/OS Systems Programmer (z/OS Systems Specialist background).
- Essential: proven SMP/e experience for Db2 installation and maintenance.
- Essential: proven experience operating in a Db2 data sharing environment.
- Strong expertise in Db2 production support, maintenance, performance tuning, and incident management.
- Experience with distributed connectivity and supporting application teams to maintain service integrity.
- Scripting/programming capability (e.g., REXX; COBOL advantageous).
- Strong analytical/problem-solving skills, with the ability to work calmly under pressure and to tight deadlines.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills, with a commitment to continuous improvement (Agile/CPD mindset).
