By strengthening our control environment and enhancing risk management, we drive operational excellence and enable the bank to deliver focused and sustainable growth in this super-region.

We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team.

In this role, you will:

1. Control Ownership & Governance

    • Local Compliance: Ensure all local Business Continuity (BC) and Operational Resilience (OR) controls operate in strict accordance with local laws, regulations, and HSBC global standards.
    • Risk Oversight: Partner with regional teams to guide local Risk Owners (GB/GI), ensuring they clearly understand control appropriateness and effectiveness.
    • Monitoring & Reporting: Execute rigorous risk and control monitoring, manage identified issues with prioritised mitigation, and deliver high-quality control reporting to meet group and regulatory requirements.

2. Business Continuity Management (BCM)

    • Lifecycle Management: Own the planning and execution of a fit-for-purpose annual BC lifecycle, ensuring all analysis, planning, and exercise obligations are met.
    • Tool & System Excellence: Ensure high-quality usage of the Business Continuity Planning Tool and Emergency Notification System, setting mechanisms to review metrics and drive remediation where gaps exist.
    • Crisis Readiness: Oversee local contingency site provisions and support Real Estate Services as a BCIM advisor.

3. Major Incident Management (MIM)

    • Crisis Capability: Ensure mandated Major Incident Group (MIG) controls are active, including the facilitation of training and exercises for HBCN.
    • Threat Monitoring: Perform proactive threat monitoring and provide timely escalation to the MIG Chair, regional teams, and key stakeholders.
    • Incident Response: Lead the team in executing emergency notifications, managing local MIG invocations, and conducting post-incident reviews in line with Group standards.

4. Operational Resilience (OR)

    • Entity Level Coordination & Steering: Orchestrate activities at entity level to ensure timely delivery of key milestones, through active tracking, monitoring, review & challenge, reporting, and escalation.
    • Continuous Improvement: Drive simplification in processes, challenge the status quo, and leverage new tools to enhance resilience capabilities.

5. Stakeholder Management & Leadership

    • Trusted Advisor: Build and maintain strong relationships with local Heads of GB/GI, senior management, and regulators.
    • Ambassadorship: Act as the local face of BCIM/OR, advocating for resilience priorities and fostering an exchange culture across HSBC entities in China.
    • Team Leadership: Lead by example, building a motivated, engaged, and diverse local team. Champion integrity, accountability, and collaboration.

To be successful in the role, you should meet the following requirements:

    • Proven Expertise: Significant experience in risk or control management, with a deep track record in managing Business Continuity and Operational Resilience lifecycles.
    • Crisis Leadership: Demonstrated experience in managing major incidents, training senior executives, and facilitating high-stakes crisis exercises.
    • Regulatory Knowledge: A deep understanding of global and local requirements related to BCIM and OR. Professional certification (e.g., CBCP, MBCI) is a significant advantage.
    • Strategic Agility: The ability to translate global and regional priorities into effective local actions, balancing competing demands to find the best solutions.
    • Decision Making: A confident decision-maker who can act decisively under pressure and within tight deadlines.
    • Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
    • Global Mindset: Experience working within highly regulated, complex international organisations.
