We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role of Director, Innovation and Digital Partnerships 

 

Responsibilities 

We are seeking a talented candidate with an entrepreneurship mindset to join a growing team as the Director for Innovation and Digital Partnerships, based in China. This is a critical role that will be responsible for leading the bank’s Chinese AI partnerships, covering Big Techs, Frontier Labs, and leading AI companies that will be critical to HSBC’s AI strategy. In addition, this role will lead our Chinese patent and technology research strategy and strategy for academic engagements with leading universities in China.

As a key player, you'll spearhead initiatives with partners leveraging HSBC's unique strengths to secure our competitive edge, in particular with AI. In addition, the role will play a role to support the HSBC China business and Chinese tech centers with a holistic innovation agenda. 

•    Lead Strategic AI Partnerships: Drive HSBC’s AI partnership strategy and agenda in China by establishing and managing relationships with Chinese Big Techs, frontier labs, and leading AI companies, ensuring alignment with the Group’s global AI strategy.

•    Drive Patent and Technology Research Strategy: Develop and execute HSBC’s patent and technology research strategy within China, ensuring alignment with global objectives and local market opportunities.

•    Foster Academic Engagements: Build and nurture relationships with leading Chinese universities and academic institutions to support collaborative research and innovation initiatives.

•    Strategic Partnership Development: Identify, assess, and establish strategic alliances with premier innovation hubs and technology organisations. These partnerships should align with HSBC's strategic objectives, leveraging Chinese innovation across transformative technologies to benefit HSBC Group on a large scale. 

•    Market Analysis: Keep abreast of industry trends and emerging technologies in China, offering insights and recommendations to the HSBC Group.

•    Support HSBC China Business and Tech Centres: Collaborate with HSBC China business units and technology centres to deliver a holistic innovation agenda that drives business growth and transformation.

Governance and Committee Memberships (membership of ExCos, Risk Management Meeting):

Part of the Group Innovation and Digital Partnerships leadership team and HSBC China technology leadership team. Will participate in various forums and committees as aligned to the role once defined.

Qualifications

Functional Knowledge

  • AI and Emerging Technologies: Deep understanding of artificial intelligence, and related emerging technologies, including their applications in financial services and the broader technology ecosystem in China.
  • Strategic Partnerships: Expertise in identifying and managing strategic partnerships with AI companies, technology companies, research labs, and/or academic institutions within the Chinese market.
  • Change Leadership and Stakeholder Engagement: Ability to lead cross-functional teams, influence senior stakeholders, and drive organisational change in a complex, matrixed environment.
  • Financial Services Industry: Solid understanding of the banking and financial services sector, including regulatory requirements, customer needs, and the competitive landscape in China.
  • Competitive Intelligence and Market Trends: A robust understanding of competitive analysis and the latest trends in financial services, including disruptors such as neobanks, fintechs, and technologies like AI.
