We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team.
In this role, you will:
- Support coverage of local due diligence of China on-shore products as well as on-shore asset managers
- Assist GMS analysts in conducting independent investment due diligence across a diverse range of China on-shore products, including sourcing RFIs and relevant performance, portfolio, local market and regulatory data.
- Work collaboratively with a number of product providers and stakeholders within the group
- Evaluate asset managers’ organizational /operational structures and stewardship practices and conduct periodic reviews
- Support the production of GMS analyst notes and reports in both English and Mandarin.
- Support GMS on the enhanced DD (if required) for China onshore Hico/Focus fund list
- Be part of GMS in a newly established team in Shanghai dedicated to local China onshore aspects and will support other GMS analysts.
- Help meet our fiduciary duty towards our clients by supporting the GMS team in Hong Kong and other locations in conducting independent product due diligence on China on-shore funds/products as well as organizational due diligence on onshore China asset managers.
- Support presentation of due diligence work to the Global Manager Selection Committee, since local team’s processes and objectives will be fully aligned with GMS.
- Perform due diligence work independently and work collaboratively with a number of stakeholders locally in China, including WPB China including GPB China, HSBC Jintrust, Hang Seng QianHai, HSBC Qianhai Securities, Hang Seng China and Insurance China, as well as more broadly across HSBC Group.
To be successful in the role, you should meet the following requirements:
- 3-5 years’ experience in the Funds / Asset Management industry
- A basic understanding of how to analyze investment strategies as well as asset managers’ organizational /operational structures and stewardship practices, and the willingness to learn how to formulate independent opinions, and clearly articulate these views in writing.
- An understanding of diversity and complexity of China on-shore product types (e.g. public fund, QDII/QDLP/QDIE, GBA, ETF/ Index/quant fund, private funds as well as AMP and those product types under wrapper structure) governed by different sets of local regulations and regulators
- Working knowledge of research tools/databases such as Morningstar and Bloomberg.
- Professional qualifications / certifications like a CFA, FRM, MBA or MSc Finance and ESG qualifications a plus
- Practical knowledge / experience of financial markets, macroeconomic environment, risk management, local regulations and their application to the fixed income markets. Is desirable
- An analytical mindset and attention to detail.
- Proactive, positive attitude and ability to multi-task especially under pressure to meet time sensitive deadlines.
- Fluent in English and Mandarin, good writing and communication skills, and strong organizational and time management skills.
