We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role of Vice President - Cash and Liquidity Management.
We’re in search of someone who can deliver the Cash and Liquidity Management process accurately and on time. Provide technical and operational support to Cash Services Management and relevant business areas.
The role is in Manila and will be required to interface with the various business areas within GBM, HSS, Payment, Private Banking and Trade. The jobholder will be required to work closely with the team across GCN Malaysia to ensure BAU functions are carried out accordingly within the stipulated Performance Level Agreement (PLA).
The role holder will provide effective leadership and customer service in line with Group and company policies and standards. They will also contribute to a collaborative, supportive and people-focused team environment.
Role Context
The jobholder will also continuously reassess the operational risks associated with the role and inherent in the business, taking account of changing economic or market conditions, legal and regulatory requirements, operating procedures and practices, management restructurings, and the impact of new technology. This can be achieved by ensuring all actions take account of the likelihood of operational risk occurring and by addressing any areas of concern in conjunction with line management and/or the appropriate department.
The jobholder will also adhere to and be able to demonstrate adherence to internal controls. This will be achieved by adherence to all relevant procedures, keeping appropriate records and, where appropriate, by the timely implementation of internal and external audit points, including issues raised by external regulators.
The jobholder will implement the Group compliance policy by containing compliance risk in liaison with Global Head of Compliance, Global Compliance Officer, Area Compliance Officer or Local Compliance Officer. The term ‘compliance’ embraces all relevant financial services laws, rules and codes with which the business has to comply.
This will be achieved by adhering to all relevant processes/procedures and by liaising with Compliance department about new business initiatives at the earliest opportunity. Also and when applicable, by ensuring adequate resources are in place and training is provided, fostering a compliance culture and optimising relations with regulators.
Principal responsibilities:
- Monitor and coordinate changes that affect the process, including CMS enhancements, platform upgrades and upstream system changes.
- Lead initiatives within the team and provide regular progress updates to management.
- Assess and decide on changes that affect business-as-usual activities, including chasers, escalations, reporting, compliance and audit requirements.
- Management Information (MI) - Maintain agreed MI and submit accurate supporting statistics, reports and dashboards within the agreed timeframe.
- Identify, resolve and escalate issues proactively to support high levels of customer satisfaction, particularly for Front Office stakeholders.
- Handle customer issues sensitively and consider the impact on the customer.
- Resolve issues effectively, maintain customer goodwill and take action to improve service quality and prevent recurrence.
- Participate actively in 360-degree reviews, working groups, business-as-usual meetings and other relevant forums.
- Submit accurate MI in line with customer and business requirements.
- Lead the bi-monthly stakeholder call, including discussions on service and quality issues.
- Build a strong team environment where colleagues share skills and knowledge to achieve team and business goals.
- Take ownership of technical issues within the team and resolve or escalate them promptly and appropriately.
- Lead updates to the Operating Instructions and complete regular reviews.
- Embed risk and control principles in daily activities, including information security and segregation of duties.
- Perform regular quality and control checks on assigned queues and processes.
- Monitor internal errors and quality trends.
- Recommend, implement and monitor preventive actions.
- Participate actively in risk and control forums.
- Manage the implementation of reporting tools and guidelines across all processes.
- Identify and escalate issues for resolution.
- Identify opportunities to improve service, add value and reduce costs in line with business objectives.
- Provide feedback to the Mangers and AVP on bottlenecks, hotspots and dependencies that may affect process efficiency or create savings opportunities.
- Encourage team participation in change and improvement initiatives to drive process improvement.
- Support and manage the Annual Operating Plan (AOP) and budget effectively.
- Support the tactical and strategic agenda for Cash Services-managed activities, including the effective management of inbound migrations and de-risking from Cash Services Kuala Lumpur.
- Deliver change activities on time and ensure appropriate governance, communication and clarity on delivery dates within the control team and across Operations.
- Support adhoc projects for the Head of Operations and Operations teams, including the collection, analysis, forecasting and budgeting of operational data.
- Maintain sufficient coverage for all processes by actively managing and adjusting the team roster.
- Lead the Emergency Escalation Plan for Operations teams as part of the Business Continuity Plan.
- Maintain HSBC’s internal control standards, including the timely implementation of internal and external audit actions and actions arising from external regulatory reviews.
- Comply with the Group Compliance Policy as it applies to the role.
- Understand the operational risk scenarios associated with the role and ensure that all actions consider the likelihood and potential impact of operational risk.
Requirements:
Knowledge
- A degree in banking / financial / management / business administration / accounting exposure
- A working knowledge of Global Markets processes and trade lifecycle
- A working knowledge of regulatory reporting would be advantageous
Experience
- Sound knowledge and understanding of the Nostros Funding process and CMS Systems
- Strong understanding of MI reports
- Ideally 5+ years tenure within an Investment Banking Operations environment, exposure to Cash Management, Cash Services Operations and/or FX Operations functions is essential

- Proficient in Microsoft Office and able to use relevant digital tools effectively.

- Ability to recognise when an issue should be escalated and communicate it effectively to senior management.

- Willingness to adopt approved artificial intelligence (AI) tools and ways of working in line with HSBC’s agenda, policies and risk standards.
- Ability to identify suitable opportunities to use AI to improve efficiency, service quality, data analysis and decision-making, while maintaining strong controls.
- Ability to support team adoption of AI by sharing learning, encouraging responsible experimentation and contributing to continuous improvement.
- Ability to identify and deliver process improvement opportunities, including the effective use of automation and digital solutions.
- Ability to work effectively in a demanding environment and meet tight deadlines.
