We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role of Sr. Associate Director, Software Engineering .
In this role, you will:
- Own and operate technical governance for the sub value stream (standards, design
reviews, engineering controls, and decision records).
- Ensure solutions align to Group principles, reference architectures, and strategic
technology direction.
- Drive pragmatic engineering excellence: quality, resilience, performance,
observability, and maintainability.
- Identify and manage technical risk, including legacy constraints and technical debt,
with clear remediation plans.
- Partner with Product, Portfolio and Delivery to shape roadmaps and scope, balancing value, risk, and capacity.
- Support delivery execution: unblock teams, manage dependencies, and ensure
engineering readiness for releases.
- Provide input to quarterly/PI planning, estimation approaches, and capacity
planning; ensure plans reflect engineering realities.
To be successful in this role, you should meet the following requirements:
- Experience in Full-stack engineering experience, with knowledge and expertise in API development in HSBC - Java, Spring Boot, Maven, IntelliJ, Event Driven Systems (Kafka or similar), AWS (Kubernetes, Fargate, Redis, RDS, S3, Route 53)
o Proxy / Gateway management, Agile Methodologies – Scrum, Kanban, SAFe, Pair Programming, Agile Tooling – Jira, Confluence, CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, Git, GitHub, Nexus, Test automation development, Application Monitoring – Splunk, AppDynamics, Native mobile development - iOS(Swift, XCode) and Android(Java, Kotlin, Android Studio, Browser development (Node JS, React, Redux)
- Proven experience leading engineering teams in complex, regulated environments
(financial services experience is beneficial).
- Strong technical governance capability: standards, design assurance, risk
management, and decision-making frameworks.
- Track record of aligning teams to enterprise principles and driving consistent
engineering practices across multiple squads.
- Experience coordinating across disciplines (product, architecture, security,
operations, delivery) and managing dependencies.
- Confident senior stakeholder engagement, with the ability to explain trade-offs and
influence outcomes.
- People leadership experience: mentoring, performance management, and building
training/career development pathways.
- Strong delivery mindset: able to support planning, prioritisation, and execution
without losing sight of quality and control.
