Department: AI MANAGEMENT & STRATEGY  

Role purpose (overall high-level summary of the role)

Group AI Management and Strategy (AIMS) team is responsible for developing and implementing Group-wide strategic programs across HSBC aimed at accelerating the commercialisation and delivery of Artificial Intelligence / Machine Learning (AI/ML) across HSBC. Key areas of focus include responsible development practices, common platforms and capabilities, AI technology enablement, governance, and the Group-wide AI Strategy.

We are seeking a hands-on and detail-oriented lead data scientist, to join our Group AI Management and Strategy (AIMS) team. In this role, you will be responsible for designing and developing effective AI products within HSBC, providing support to value streams, businesses, and functions as they create their own AI use cases. Additionally, you will develop, deploy and maintain AI solutions, in partnership with the businesses.  The ideal candidate will have a strong analytical mindset, excellent communication skills, and a passion for driving innovation through AI solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

AI Product Development:
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design, develop, and enhance AI products that meet the needs of various business units within HSBC, with a clear focus on impact and value to customer.

- Conduct market research and competitive analysis to identify trends and opportunities for AI product development.

- Stay abreast of the latest developments in the field of AI and ML, lead adoption of the relevant AI tools across the bank

Responsible AI adoption:

- Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure responsible AI practices are adopted at scale, with a clear definition of metrics and benchmark for the same
Support for AI Use Cases:
- Provide guidance and support to value streams, businesses, and functions in the development of their own AI use cases, ensuring alignment with the Group-wide AI Strategy.
- Assist teams in identifying requirements, defining objectives, and establishing success metrics for their AI initiatives.

Development of platform components:

-Lead the development and deployment of common capabilities and platforms for data and AI, to be reused for various use cases across business teams

- Collaborate with stakeholders to gather requirements, design features, and implement solutions that enhance productivity and efficiency.
Data Analysis and Insights:
- Analyze data related to AI product performance and user engagement, providing actionable insights to inform product enhancements and strategic decisions.
- Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to assess the effectiveness of AI products and initiatives.

Stakeholder Engagement:
- Build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders across the organization, including business leaders, technical teams, and compliance functions.
- Communicate effectively with stakeholders to gather feedback, provide updates, and address any inquiries related to AI products and use cases.

Documentation and Reporting:
- Prepare and maintain comprehensive documentation for AI products, including user guides, technical specifications, and project plans.
- Develop regular reports on the status of AI product development and deployment, highlighting key milestones, challenges, and opportunities.

Continuous Improvement:
- Stay informed about industry trends and best practices in AI product development and management to enhance the effectiveness of HSBC’s AI initiatives.

- Implement/assist cross-functional teams to develop MLOps framework and techniques
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of processes and methodologies related to AI product development.

Minimum Experience and Key Competencies:

4+ years of experience in end-end AI/ML solution development, architecture design, or a related role, preferably within the financial services or technology sectors

Hands on expertise in Python, Spark, cloud platforms AWS/GCP/Azure

Experience in deploying gen AI solutions/LLMs through integration with software applications – Open AI GPT models, Google Gemini, Mistral, etc. and orchestration frameworks like LangChain, LangGraph

Proven experience in deploying AI solutions at scale, in production, with experience working with big data

Strong understanding of AI/ML concepts and their applications in a business context, experience working with several databases/data lakes

Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret data and provide actionable insights.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders.

Proficiency in data analysis/BI tools like PowerBI, Tableau, Grafana, Looker, etc. for data storytelling is a plus.

Functional Knowledge

In-depth knowledge and understanding of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) technologies
