Job description
Some careers shine brighter than others.
If you’re looking for a career that will help you stand out, join HSBC and fulfil your potential. Whether you want a career that could take you to the top, or simply take you in an exciting new direction, HSBC offers opportunities, support and rewards that will take you further.
HSBC is one of the largest banking and financial services organisations in the world, with operations in 64 countries and territories. We aim to be where the growth is, enabling businesses to thrive and economies to prosper, and, ultimately, helping people to fulfil their hopes and realise their ambitions.
We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role of Consultant Specialist
In this role, you will:
- Provide second- and third-line production and application support across a portfolio of Java and Spring Boot micro-services, application programming interfaces (APIs) and scheduled batch jobs, keeping services healthy across multiple regions and time zones.
- Manage the incident, problem and change lifecycle: restore service during outages, lead root-cause analysis, raise and implement controlled change requests, and maintain runbooks, implementation, rollback and audit evidence.
- Investigate and resolve production defects by analysing application logs, database queries (Structured Query Language, SQL) and API behaviour; deliver low- to medium-complexity code and configuration fixes and validate them through to release.
- Monitor application and API health using enterprise observability tooling such as AppDynamics, Splunk and the Elasticsearch, Logstash and Kibana (ELK) stack; tune alerting rules and action or suppress alerts during planned events.
- Support reference-data synchronisation, data patching and ad-hoc data-extraction requests for business users, business analysts and architects, and support production-like and post-release verification testing.
- Deliver IT service management and governance activities, including vulnerability-remediation tracking, certificate management, access and entitlement reviews, business impact analysis, service-recovery and backup-and-restore exercises, and internal and external audit support.
- Plan and support releases, role-swaps and business-continuity events, and contribute to release handovers, retrospectives and change-control forums to protect service stability.
- Provide rota-based on-call and out-of-hours production support covering Asia, Middle East and North Africa (MENA), United Kingdom (UK) and United States (US) business hours, and drive continuous improvement to reduce manual effort.
To be successful, you will:
- Demonstrate hands-on IT service management and production-support experience, including incident, problem and change management, root-cause analysis and supporting live, business-critical applications.
- Have practical Java (version 8 or above) and Spring Boot development or support experience, with the ability to read code, debug issues and deliver controlled fixes using Maven, JUnit and Structured Query Language (SQL).
- Understand application programming interfaces (APIs), web and micro-services (Representational State Transfer, REST, and Simple Object Access Protocol, SOAP), service-oriented architecture and API integration.
- Be comfortable with relational and non-relational databases (ideally Oracle and MongoDB) and able to write and troubleshoot queries to investigate production issues.
- Have working knowledge of monitoring and service-management tooling such as AppDynamics, Splunk, ELK, ServiceNow, JIRA and Confluence, and of engineering and quality tooling such as Git, Jenkins, SonarQube and Checkmarx.
- Have exposure to cloud platforms such as Google Cloud Platform (GCP), Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure or Pivotal Cloud Foundry (PCF); knowledge of GCP or an enterprise Kubernetes platform is an advantage.
- Bring strong analytical and problem-solving skills, the ability to work calmly in a dynamic and unpredictable production environment, and a continuous-improvement mindset.
- Communicate clearly with development, infrastructure, security and business teams, maintain accurate documentation and change evidence, and participate in agreed on-call and out-of-hours support arrangements.
You’ll achieve more when you join HSBC.
