We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role of Principal Engineer

The Opportunity 

This role will act as a Principal Engineer in the Group Functions Tech AI team and is expected to be experienced in delivering Gen AI solutions at an enterprise scale and familiar with the latest AI developments, such as agentic AI, MCP, RAG and knowledge management.

This position will play an instrumental role in driving technical delivery for large-scale products or pieces of infrastructure with influence across a large teams of engineers.

Their primary responsibility is to add value for significant areas of the technology organisation by using their significant expertise and combination of skills to influence and lead key stakeholders in the delivery of IT solutions that adhere to HSBC Technology's strategic vision.

This person will typically be someone who  provides positive, hands-on engineering leadership with impact to a large part of the organisation, they have a deep awareness of technology, what is happening in the tech community, thinking critically about it and applying that to delivering change.

• Communicate ideas succinctly. Ability to communicate technical big picture vision, strategy and direction

To be successful in this role, you should meet the following requirements:

• Researches new tech / processes and is the driving force to adopt them
• Someone who can think few steps forward of technology and guide the team or department to a new direction
• Someone who isn't just a specialist in one domain (e.g. just networks); we prefer generalists, who can apply their thinking to many problems
• Demonstrates mastery of their technical discipline

• Can see a problem or an opportunity and then engineers a solution
• Someone who is respected for what they build not (just) what they say
• Thinks about the business impact of their work
• Holistic view to problem solving
