Job description
Some careers shine brighter than others.
If you’re looking for a career that will help you stand out, join HSBC and fulfil your potential. Whether you want a career that could take you to the top, or simply take you in an exciting new direction, HSBC offers opportunities, support and rewards that will take you further.
HSBC is one of the largest banking and financial services organisations in the world, with operations in 64 countries and territories. We aim to be where the growth is, enabling businesses to thrive and economies to prosper, and, ultimately, helping people to fulfil their hopes and realise their ambitions.
We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role of Lead Business Analyst
The new Appllication Platforms team is transforming the way software engineering and delivery works across the group, with our Vision to Build Platforms that transform software delivery into a repeatable advantage - faster, safer and more reliable every time”. app.hsbc is a new platform that brings together best in class engineering platforms into a single surface that spans multiple clouds and on-premises, delivering clean, compliant infrastructure and tooling that gets out of the way and allows engineers to build and deploy great software to production in short cycles and with high levels of compliance with standards and controls, with paved roads to production.
In this role, you will:
-
Track and report product performance using agreed measures (adoption, usage, reliability, delivery flow, backlog health), producing concise MI for reviews and governance.
-
Identify trends, risks, and cross-initiative dependencies; flag where decisions, mitigation, or escalation are needed.
-
Support Product Owners with backlog management: clarify requirements, refine user stories, complete acceptance criteria, and keep priorities current.
-
Convert ambiguous requests into clear problem statements, assumptions, options, and outcome-focused measures of value.
-
Ensure non-functional requirements are captured and made explicit with engineering (e.g., resilience, security, auditability, operability).
-
Maintain product delivery artefacts and product ops hygiene (roadmap views, release notes, comms, RAID logs, dependency tracking) to improve predictability and transparency.
-
Support Agile cadence at sprint/PI level (refinement support, sprint reviews/show-and-tells, stakeholder updates), capturing decisions and following up actions.
-
Manage intake by triaging requests, enforcing minimum information standards, and routing items to the right product area.
-
Translate technical delivery into stakeholder-friendly updates and enablement materials (FAQs, release communications, onboarding guidance) to drive adoption and improve feedback loops.
To be successful, you will:
-
Experience operating in a Product Owner (or equivalent) capacity in a technology environment, ideally delivering internal/technical products rather than end-customer features.
-
Strong analytical capability: able to work with datasets and operational signals to produce insights, recommendations, and clear MI (e.g., adoption/usage, reliability, delivery metrics, backlog health).
-
Ability to write high-quality requirements: clear problem statements, well-formed user stories, complete acceptance criteria, and basic process flows.
-
Confidence engaging with engineers and technical stakeholders, understanding discussions well enough to ask the right questions and document decisions accurately.
-
Solid backlog and prioritisation discipline: comfortable breaking down ambiguity, refining work, and keeping priorities aligned to outcomes and measurable value.
-
Good grasp of non-functional requirements (resilience, security, auditability, operability) and the ability to ensure they’re explicitly captured in delivery work. Familiarity with Agile practices and tooling (e.g., refinement, sprint/PI cadence, Jira/Confluence; Excel/Power BI for reporting) and some exposure to Platform Engineering concepts (CI/CD, observability, containers, developer tooling) as an advantage
-
Strong organisation and follow-through: able to manage multiple streams, dependencies, RAID/actions, and cadence deliverables without things slipping.
-
Clear, stakeholder-friendly communication skills: translating technical delivery into “what’s changing, who’s impacted, and what happens next,” plus supporting release/onboarding comms. A curious, outcome-focused mindset with a pragmatic approach—keeps work moving while improving quality iteratively and taking accountability for data accuracy and commitments.
You’ll achieve more when you join HSBC.
