HSBC is one of the largest banking and financial services organisations in the world, with operations in 64 countries and territories. We aim to be where the growth is, enabling businesses to thrive and economies to prosper, and, ultimately, helping people to fulfil their hopes and realise their ambitions.
We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role of Consultant Specialist
In this role, you will:
- Build, maintain and troubleshoot Jenkins-based continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipelines, automating builds, security checks and deployments through version-controlled configuration and approved engineering practices.
- Deliver controlled production releases across a portfolio of more than 40 application programming interfaces (APIs), user interfaces and database scripts. Create change requests, assess impact and dependencies, secure approvals, and maintain implementation, rollback, validation and audit evidence.
- Support a large estate of test environments, including application restarts, deployment troubleshooting and infrastructure service requests, keeping environments ready for delivery and maintaining operational configurations and runbooks.
- Deploy and support APIs on enterprise Kubernetes test platforms, troubleshooting Docker images, workloads, configuration, connectivity and application health in partnership with platform teams.
- Build and configure on-premises infrastructure, virtual machines and enterprise application-hosting environments for new applications; coordinate firewall rules, connectivity, access and operational handover with infrastructure and network teams.
- Maintain production platforms through planned patching and upgrades. Run and triage static application security testing, container and open-source dependency scans; remediate platform and pipeline vulnerabilities and coordinate application-code fixes with developers.
- Support HashiCorp Vault and Google Cloud Platform (GCP) development and production accounts for payment applications, including client ID/secret configuration and controlled key and secret rotation, with least-privilege access and auditable change records.
- Create, update and release Control-M jobs and calendars into production, validate schedules and dependencies, and troubleshoot batch failures through approved change and recovery procedures.
- Increase release frequency while protecting service stability by measuring delivery performance, automating repeatable operations and implementing improvements from incidents and failed changes.
- Provide rota-based on-call and out-of-hours release and production support. Monitor DevOps service health, restore service during incidents, investigate root causes, communicate status and track corrective actions through incident and problem management.
To be successful, you will:
- Demonstrate hands-on DevOps engineering and IT service management experience, including production environment upkeep, controlled releases, change requests, incident response, problem management and root-cause analysis.
- Have practical Jenkins and CI/CD pipeline experience, Git-based version control and scripting skills such as shell or Python, with the ability to deploy APIs and user interfaces, execute controlled database scripts and validate rollback procedures.
- Understand Docker and Kubernetes operations, including container images, deployments, configuration, secrets, networking and workload troubleshooting on enterprise platforms.
- Be able to provision, configure and support on-premises virtual machines and application-hosting environments, including operating-system patching, access controls, connectivity and firewall troubleshooting.
- Understand static application security testing (SAST), container scanning and free and open-source software (FOSS) dependency risks, prioritise remediation, fix platform and pipeline vulnerabilities, and validate closure with developers and security teams.
- Have practical knowledge of HashiCorp Vault, GCP account support, identity and access controls, client IDs/secrets and safe production key and secret rotation.
- Have hands-on Control-M experience covering job creation, updates, scheduling, dependencies, calendars, production promotion and batch recovery.
- Communicate clearly with development, infrastructure, security and business teams; maintain accurate runbooks and change evidence, use delivery-performance measures to drive improvement, and participate in agreed on-call and out-of-hours support arrangements.
