Job description

Some careers shine brighter than others.

If you’re looking for a career that will help you stand out, join HSBC and fulfil your potential. Whether you want a career that could take you to the top, or simply take you in an exciting new direction, HSBC offers opportunities, support and rewards that will take you further.

HSBC is one of the largest banking and financial services organisations in the world, with operations in 64 countries and territories. We aim to be where the growth is, enabling businesses to thrive and economies to prosper, and, ultimately, helping people to fulfil their hopes and realise their ambitions.

We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role of Senior Consultant Specialist

In this role, you will:

  • Lead end-to-end business analysis for cross-border and domestic payments across APAC, MENA and the UK, spanning initiation, validation, routing, clearing, settlement, returns and reconciliation.
  • Gather, analyse and document requirements across multiple payment rails including SWIFT FIN/ISO 20022 (CBPR+), SWIFT gpi (where applicable), and domestic clearing/ACH and instant rails. Translate business needs into delivery-ready epics, features and user stories with clear, measurable acceptance criteria and end-to-end traceability.
  • Act as a subject matter partner on ISO 20022 and SWIFT standards, including message interpretation, field-level mapping, validations, enrichment rules, and format translation (e.g., MT ↔ MX).
  • Define domestic and cross-border payment journeys including customer experience, channel inputs, fees/charges, FX touchpoints (where relevant), and confirmation/notification events. Analyze and document regional complexities: cut-off times, time zones, local holidays, settlement windows, value dating, prioritization and SLA commitments.
  • Facilitate workshops with Product, Engineering, Architecture, Operations, Compliance/Risk and vendors to agree scope, prioritization, dependencies and release plans across markets.
  • Partner with Architects/Engineers to clarify integrations and non-functional requirements: throughput, latency, resilience, observability/monitoring, auditability, security and data retention. Define exception handling and investigations: rejects/returns, recalls/cancellations, reversals, repairs workflows, retries, duplicate handling and idempotency behavior.
  • Drive STP improvement by identifying root causes of repairs and exceptions, simplifying business rules, and improving data quality and validation upstream. Define and maintain artefacts: BPMN/process maps, business rules catalogues, data dictionaries, interface specifications, operating model impacts and production support handovers.
  • Support Agile delivery: backlog refinement, sprint planning, demos and retrospectives; ensure items meet Definition of Ready/Done and align to outcomes. Support end-to-end testing and acceptance: scenario design, message/sample validation, SIT/UAT support, defect triage and sign-off readiness.
  • Support production readiness across regions: runbooks, monitoring/alerting requirements, operational training needs, service communications and post-go-live learnings.
  • Mentor junior analysts and contribute to consistent BA standards, templates and reusable patterns across payments deliveries.

To be successful, you will:

  • Strong payments domain expertise across cross-border and domestic payments, including lifecycle events, settlement models, exceptions, investigations and reconciliation. Demonstrable experience working with multiple payment rails, with depth in SWIFT and strong exposure to domestic ACH/clearing and instant payments rails across all countries.
  • Strong working knowledge of ISO 20022 and SWIFT message standards (including MT/MX and CBPR+ concepts), with practical experience in mapping, validation and enrichment requirements. Proven Senior BA capability in requirements engineering elicitation, decomposition, prioritization, documentation and traceability—able to make requirements testable and implementation-ready.
  • Strong Agile delivery experience (Scrum/Kanban): writing high-quality user stories/acceptance criteria, supporting backlog management and iterating with stakeholders. Experience operating in multi-country environments—comfortable managing stakeholders across cultures/time zones and handling localization and regulatory variation without losing global consistency.
  • Solid understanding of payments-grade non-functional requirements (performance, resilience, observability, audit trails, security) and how they influence design and delivery. Strong grasp of operational processing realities: STP, repairs queues, investigations, cut-offs, batching vs real-time, retries/failover and production support needs.
  • Awareness of key compliance and control touchpoints in payments (e.g., sanctions screening interactions, AML triggers, evidencing, retention) and ability to capture them as actionable requirements.
  • Strong communication and facilitation skills—able to explain complex flows and messaging to technical and non-technical audiences and drive decisions.
  • Comfortable with common BA toolsets (e.g., JIRA/Confluence) and modelling tools (BPMN/Visio), with strong documentation discipline.
  • Delivery-focused and accountable—able to manage ambiguity, resolve gaps quickly and drive outcomes across cross-border and domestic payment initiatives.
