What You Will Do:
This position is part of HSBC Continental Europe Wholesale Credit Risk Management (HBCE WCRM), within the Wholesale Credit Approval team based in Paris.
HBCE WCRM is responsible for managing credit risk for France as well as for subsidiaries and branches across Continental Europe (including Spain, Italy, the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Ireland, Poland, the Czech Republic, the Nordics, Malta, and Germany). The team covers a range of economic segments—from Small and Medium Enterprises to Large Corporates and Global Banking clients, sovereign states, financial institutions, and both internal and external groups.
In this role, your key responsibilities will include:
- Managing a defined portfolio related to wholesale credit risk matters.
- Reviewing, recommending, and approving corporate credit proposals for HBCE, in line with authorized credit limits.
- Maintaining strong credit quality, consistent with the Group’s credit culture: conservative, constructive, and competitive. Promoting prudent lending principles to ensure high asset quality and minimize credit losses.
- Proactively identifying and highlighting emerging risks and substandard credit exposures, ensuring appropriate actions are taken to protect the Bank’s interests.
- Regularly engaging stakeholders and internal clients by understanding and sharing the vision, best practices, challenges, and potential solutions; collaborating on transaction pipelines, credit guidelines, portfolio or product analyses, risk appetite definition, and other credit risk initiatives.
- Maintaining regular communication with business, product, and group teams; strengthening HSBC’s strong brand image with third parties.
- Providing feedback on best practices and reviewing portfolio management and ambitious functional objectives to highlight any credit, environmental, or reputational issues.
Apply if You Match These Qualifications:
- A bachelor’s or master’s degree in business administration, finance, or a related field is typically required.
- Experience in demanding operational environments for a solid understanding of effective risk management applications.
- Ability to collaborate at all levels of the organization to understand cross-functional links and interdependencies, as well as the implications of credit and other risks on a global scale.
- Good understanding of HSBC’s overall operational dynamics.
- Development of professional skills to determine risk-based solutions.
Skills:
- Experience in credit risk within relevant business sectors (Commercial Banking/Investment banking).
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to advocate for risk management in business language.
- Proven ability to prioritize competing demands.
- Demonstrated capacity to assess risk trends, both internally and externally.
- Maturity, resilience, and excellent negotiation and communication skills.
- Proficiency in English (spoken and written); French is an advantage.
- Strong financial and accounting acumen.
