We are currently seeking an ambitious individual to join the team as a Vice President - Sustainable Finance & Transition, who will be responsible for the sustainability and transition coverage of our clients. The role holder will focus on some of our priority clients as well as designated segments in our banking portfolio working closing with coverage and product teams. The role will report to the Regional Head of Sustainable Finance and Transition, North America.

As our Vice President, Sustainable Finance and Transition you will:

  • Lead the development of sustainability content and thought leadership:
    • Work with global teams and sustainability function to develop market leading content to support C-suite dialogue, market and sector insights, buy-side intel, access to investment opportunities
  • Support client engagement and origination:
    • Work with GRBs on client planning leading the SFT component of the client plan (Client planning)
    •  Manage policies, financed emissions, transition engagement questionnaire and transition plan assessments along with coverage team (Strategic Transition Engagement)
    • Develop client sustainability insights, Pitch propositions bringing along ESG product partners where relevant
    • Originate sustainable finance across all products and lead the end-to-end structuring and execution of sustainable finance deals for loans
    • Support origination of non-sustainable finance labelled products through strategic sustainability dialogue
    • Develop relationship with individuals responsible for sustainability agenda at client (CSO, COO, Innovation teams, investment teams…)
    • Connect clients to relevant partners and climate tech providers
  •  Inform and launch proposition to support clients in their transition journey based on customer needs
  • Enable and upskill frontline teams, coordinating across products and business lines to provide commercialization and risk management
  • Work with marketing and communication partners to promote HSBC’s efforts in this space including participating and speaking in industry events
  • Manage greenwashing risk by supporting the banking teams with managing risks arising from our sustainability policies and the execution of sustainable finance transactions in close collaboration with business sustainability risk

You’ll likely have the following qualifications to succeed in this role: 

  • Ability to lead cross-functional initiatives to identify sustainability-driven business opportunities within a client segment, guiding bankers to position relevant solutions and deepen client relationships to capture a greater share of wallet
  • Knowledge of key sustainability topics and experience in holding a technical sustainability related conversation
  • Knowledge of banking products and experience working closely with transaction banking and event product partners
  • Experience and track record with successfully originating and executing sustainable finance labelled products 
  • Experience in informing and commercializing product and proposition development
  • Experience of building strong relationships with first line and second line Risk partners and functions
  • Experience of creating a ‘one team’ approach to bringing people together to drive outcomes and organizational change
  • Demonstrate strong work diligence and accountability by consistently following through on client requests, ensuring timely and accurate execution of deliverables, and maintain clear, proactive communication throughout all stages of client and internal engagements
  • Proven track record of flexibility and resourcefulness in fluid environments of constantly evolving priorities, challenging bureaucracy and staying true to the values and strategy of the Group
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills with a proven ability to communicate effectively and confidently at all levels

Your final fixed pay offer will depend on the candidate and several variables, including but not limited to, role responsibilities, skill set, depth of experience and education, licensing/certification requirements, internal relativity, and specific work location.
