HSBC’s Global Trade Solutions business (GTS) operates in around 50 countries and territories, covering both developed and developing markets that matter most to our customers and account for the bulk of global trade flows.

GTS provides solutions to HSBC’s customers in Corporate and Institutional Banking to help them optimise working capital, manage counterparty risk and settle their trade transactions whether they are domestic or international and cover goods or services.

This role is multi-faceted, with broad responsibility for leading the development, management and commercialization of GTS Structured Trade solutions in the United States. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage a team of structured trade product specialists in delivering client-centric solutions to support aggressive growth ambitions
  • Be responsible for the development and deployment of industry leading solutions that address the working capital needs of GTS clients
  • Lead a customer centric culture that is focused on delivering a differentiated customer experience to clients through the lifecycle of their GTS relationship
  • Provide GTS leadership and technical expertise to internal and external partners to accelerate the execution of new structured trade propositions, digital solutions, and strategic initiatives
  • Manage the product life cycle and performance, defining and commercializing new propositions and channels while ensuring high-quality customer experience and adherence to governance and compliance requirements

Product & Proposition Development & Commercialization

  • Deliver on a US GTS Structured Trade Product strategy that further differentiates the proposition within the market and includes a clear focus on client experience.
  • Collaborate with Regional and Global GTS Product to identify and deploy new solutions to capitalize on market opportunities and enhance GTS’ ability to meet client challenges.
  • Manage the financial oversight of all structured trade products, including revenues, costs, RWAs and other key indicators.
  • Lead the development, execution, marketing and monitoring of strategic product initiatives that directly support growth, customer experience and broader awareness of GTS capability with internal and external audiences.
  • Provide leadership and technical expertise to GTS Sales and Client Coverage on all structured trade product and propositions related aspects of GTS, including input into RFPs and solution implementation.
  • Drive a culture of responsibility for the commercial performance of each structured trade product throughout the proposition, including the development of product specific KPIs and frameworks for product.
  • Understand key drivers behind financial performance, share with global product and key stakeholders, and propose corrective measures when relevant.
  • Be responsible for identifying growth opportunities across Global Corporate, International Mid-Market and Global Network Banking client portfolios to help commercialize new and existing solutions at scale.
  • Understand economic trends and their impact on HSBC, GTS and our clients, including the identification of levers to capitalize on opportunities or minimize downside exposures.

Operational Effectiveness & Control 

  • Ensure effective management of delivery, commercial & operational risk as part of the execution lifecycle
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant internal instructions (FIMs, GSM, GCLs) and external regulatory requirements, including the management of operational risk and adherence to the Group’s values
  • Maintain and observe all HSBC control standards and implement the Risk and Compliance Policies, including recommendations from internal/external auditors and regulators
  • Continually re-assess the operational risks inherent in GTS taking account of changing market conditions, legal and regulatory requirements, operating procedures and practices and management restructurings
  • Recommend improvements to operating models, procedures and practices based on subject matter expertise
  • Proactively implement risk mitigation measures to protect the Bank and its customers from all regulatory, compliance and service issues.
  • Manage relevant product governance implementation, governance related to global product inventory and related outsourcing arrangements

To be successful in this role, you should meet the following requirements:

  • 10+ years of relevant experience in Trade Finance preferred, with extensive knowledge of structured trade products and the market dynamics
  • Have extensive knowledge of the Global Trade industry, products offered, market trends, competitive landscape and pertinent regulations affecting their delivery
  • Have proven leadership skills in complex, matrixed organizations - leading through influence and direct authority across teams and in a global organization
  • Have a strong communication skills, with proven ability to manage internal and external stakeholder engagements.
  • Have a strong analytical skills and ability to analyse complex problems, interpret customer or operational needs and develop integrated, creative solutions
  • Demonstrate a sound commercial judgment and strategic vision
  • Ability to use strong judgmental skills to identify and resolve problems 
  • Possess good communication, presentation and influencing skills
  • Ability to cope with pressure in a dynamic, fast growing and moving environment
  • Have a strong persuasion skills coupled with ability to design and define solutions that add value to customer relationships
  • Have an understanding of the changing regulatory environment externally and its potential impact on the business
